WAFCON 2022: Waldrum Confident Oshoala Will Be Fit For Botswana Clash

Super Falcons head coach
Randy Waldrum is confident Asisat Oshoala will be able to shake off her injury in time for his side’s next game against Botswana.

Oshoala sustained an injury in Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat to the Banyana Banyana of South Africa on Monday night.

The striker was hacked down by a South African player early in the game, but played on until the 82nd minute.

The Barcelona Femeni star was replaced by Francisca Ordega.

Waldrum is upbeat his star forward won’t spend too time on the sidelines.

“I think she will be fine, the doctors will check her and I am hopeful for a positive update,”the American gaffer told reporters.

The Super Falcons will take on Botswana on Thursday.

Botswana top the group on goal difference after a thrilling 4-2 win against fellow debutants, Burundi on Monday night.

Abeg there’s no need, she didn’t paly anything in that match, she should rest abeg. No passion and no drive from her.

    • It’s like she doesn’t know how to hold up play and bring other people to play. She can’t pass. She can’t dribble. Just want to run and shoot.

Oshoala has always been a run and shoot person, even from her U20 days.
So that is not a knock against the way she plays.

        • She could play like that those times the opposition is weak. She does not play like that in her Club. She doesn’t expect to go past or through her marker every time. She turns around to link other players but she just couldn’t get herself to do the same yesterday.

Don’t blame Asisat, blame the COACH’s POOR tactics

Even from just watching on telly, it seemed a serious injury, as her knee obviously buckled (just like Ndidi’s when he was injured). Unfortunately, the coach, who only tactic seemed to be to pump it upfield and let Asisat chase it persisted until she had to sit down on the pitch, before being finally substituted.

Coach, you must be joking! Which Oshoala? Please let her remain on the bench as she was partly responsible for our disastrous outing yesterday. We do not need her in this tournament any more and going forward

  • The real scare is that Botswana plays exactly like South Africa. For Nigerians who think it will be a walk-over, they would be in for a shocker. I will suggest Oshoala is benched and the midfielder is reorganized with girls who really want to move with the ball.

We should of course humbly respect all of our opponents, but I will stick my neck out and say: BOTSWANA WILL NOT DO JACK!

Nigerians are masters of HYPERBOLE. One defeat and the sky has fallen, forgetting we also lost to South Africa on our way to winning the same WAFCON in 2018.

  • Ingrates that what you all sound like.
Kicking them when they are down instead of encouraging and praying for them.

      BLESS YOU!

Best of luck to our Super Falcons. And Speedy Recovery to SuperZee Oshoala!
