Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has blamed his side’s poor finishing for their defeat to the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, reports Completesports.com.
Madugu’s side were eliminated from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Cameroon at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Casablanca on Sunday night.
Myriam Nyadjou’s 19th-minute free-kick proved to be the difference between the two teams.
The Super Falcons created a number of scoring opportunities but were repeatedly denied by Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina, who produced an outstanding performance to help her side secure victory.
The Indomitable Lionesses will face hosts Morocco in the semi-final in Rabat on Wednesday night. They have also secured qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria, meanwhile, will take on Banyana Banyana of South Africa in a play-in match, where they will have another opportunity to secure a place at the World Cup.

Madugu Rues Painful Defeat
Reflecting on the defeat, Madugu said the outcome could have been different had the Super Falcons converted their chances.
“It was not our intention to lose. If we had been more clinical, the game could have been different.” Madugu said after the game.
Thumbs Up For Indomitable Lionesses
Despite the disappointment, Madugu praised Cameroon for weathering Nigeria’s relentless pressure and making their early advantage count.
“I like to give Cameroon credit. They did not qualify initially but came in as one of best ranked teams,” added Madugu.
“They came first in their group, winning their two games and drawing against Cape Verde, in match that did not matter as far as position is concerned.
“Today, they did best they could and defended very well, but we created a lot of chances. If we had converted our chances, the result would have been different.”
