Nigeria’s Yemisi Akintoye will be at the centre when Algeria take on Malawi in the semi-final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday (today), Completesports.com reports.
The last-four encounter will take place at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
It will be the second match Akintoye will officiate at this year’s tournament.

The Nigerian referee previously handled the Group A encounter between Senegal and Kenya at the Olympic Stadium on Thursday, 30 July.
Akintoye, who is making her debut at Africa’s flagship women’s football tournament, also served as fourth official in the opening match between Algeria and Kenya.
Meanwhile, Togolese referee Vincentia Enyonam will take charge of the other semi-final between hosts Morocco and Cameroon at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat.
The two matches will determine the finalists of WAFCON 2026.

The older the better coach is as good as gone since it would have been against his philosophy to discover or mould younger players instead of picking his WAFCON list of over 25 players yet prefer to play many in unfamiliar positions and burning them out as a result because of no bench.

The coach and the NFF should go. God forbid they return. How do you take Nigeria, the Brazil or Spain of African women’s football, and reduce us to scrambling through a playoff just to qualify for the World Cup?
I’m genuinely gutted. I had expected a World Cup ticket, another WAFCON title, and, honestly, a sweet revenge against Malawi in the final. Instead, the players, Madugu and the NFF somehow managed to turn the whole thing into a football tragedy. Shame on Gusau and this NFF.
Imagine Brazil, the USA, Spain or Japan having to qualify for a World Cup through a playoff after dominating their continent for decades. It sounds ridiculous because it is ridiculous. Yet that is where Nigeria now finds itself.
For years, the Super Falcons were the undisputed queens of African women’s football. Other countries didn’t just compete with Nigeria; they measured themselves against Nigeria. Now we’ve been reduced to hoping for a playoff route to the biggest stage. How did we get here?
This isn’t just a bad tournament. It’s the consequence of years of administrative incompetence, poor preparation, questionable coaching and a leadership culture that seems more interested in retaining power than building football.
And the irony? The same people responsible for this collapse will probably soon come asking for another mandate. Una no dey fear God?
This could be the first time in our history that both Nigeria’s men’s and women’s senior national teams fail to make a FIFA World Cup. Shameful. Absolutely shameful.
At this point it’s safe to say that Cameroon is using juju. I refuse to believe their clean sheets are pure. From the way we missed goals to now Morocco …lol
