Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Committee member and FIFA Media Committee member Aisha Falode has urged Nigerians to keep faith with the Super Falcons following their stunning 3-2 defeat to WAFCON debutants Malawi in their opening Group C match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Completesports.com reports.
The disappointing result has left the 10-time African champions under pressure ahead of their remaining group fixtures, but Falode insists the setback should not define a team that has built an enviable legacy over decades.
Super Falcons Have Earned Nigerians’ Trust
Falode paid glowing tribute to the Super Falcons’ remarkable history, describing them as a team that has consistently served the country with distinction.
“The Super Falcons have earned the trust, admiration, and unwavering respect of Nigerians through decades of excellence, resilience, and an enduring commitment to our nation’s colours,” she said.

“They are champions not only because of the trophies they have won, but because of the character, courage, and determination they have consistently displayed every time they step onto the pitch in service of Nigeria.”
While acknowledging the disappointment of the defeat to Malawi, Falode stressed that the players and technical crew were hurting more than anyone else.
“The result against Malawi was undoubtedly disappointing. It was not the outcome the team worked tirelessly for, nor the result millions of Nigerians had hoped to celebrate,” she stated.
“But I can say with confidence that no one feels that disappointment more deeply than the players and the technical crew themselves. They understand the weight of the green and white jersey, and they carry the hopes of an entire nation with immense pride and responsibility.”
Super Falcons Still Capable Of Achieving Their Objectives
Falode maintained that one disappointing performance should not overshadow the Super Falcon’s quality or alter the objectives they travelled to Morocco to achieve.
According to her, the Super Falcons remain focused on securing qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup while also reclaiming the WAFCON title for a record-extending 11th time.
“One result does not diminish the quality of this team, the purpose that brought them to Morocco, or the belief of a nation that has stood firmly behind them,” she said.

“They came into this championship focused, committed, and determined to achieve two important objectives: securing Nigeria’s qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup and reclaiming the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title for a record-extending eleventh time.”
She also reminded Nigerians that the greatest champions are often defined by how they respond to adversity.
“The journey of every great champion is marked by moments of adversity. What defines champions is not the absence of setbacks but the strength of their response,” Falode said.
“Throughout their illustrious history, the Super Falcons have shown an extraordinary ability to rise after disappointment, respond with courage, and remind the world why they remain the benchmark of women’s football in Africa. I have every confidence that this generation will do the same.”
Support Needed More Than Ever — Falode
Falode called on Nigerians to rally behind the team instead of dwelling on criticism, insisting this is when the players need the country’s encouragement the most.
She noted that the Super Falcons understand the privilege of representing over 200 million Nigerians and appreciate the confidence placed in them by the Federal Government, the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation, corporate partners and millions of supporters.
“As we look ahead, our focus must remain on the opportunities before us. This tournament is still alive, our objectives remain within reach, and every match presents another opportunity to demonstrate the true character of this team,” she added.
“I believe they will respond with the passion, discipline, and fighting spirit that have become synonymous with the Super Falcons.”
Falode further appealed to Nigerians to replace doubt with belief and criticism with constructive support.

“More than a fervent appeal, may we all continue to stand firmly behind this team in our thoughts and prayers. This is the moment when our encouragement matters most.

Crucial Zambia And Egypt Tests Await Nigeria
Falode concluded her message with a direct appeal to the players, urging them to remember the legacy they represent and the millions of young girls who see them as role models.
“To our dear Super Falcons, remember who you are. Remember the legacy you represent and the millions of young girls who look up to you as symbols of possibility and inspiration.
“Continue to play with courage. Continue to believe in one another. Continue to honour the badge with the passion, discipline, and resilience that have always defined Nigerian champions.”
She expressed confidence that the team possesses the quality, experience and unity to write another glorious chapter in African women’s football.
“The Super Falcons have written some of the greatest chapters in African football history. I firmly believe they possess the quality, experience, unity, and character to write another.
“Nigeria believes in you. Nigeria stands with you. Keep believing. Keep fighting. Keep soaring.”
The Super Falcons will seek to revive their WAFCON 2026 campaign when they face Zambia’s Copper Queens in their Group C Matchday 2 fixture on Saturday, 1 August, at Al Madina Stadium, Rabat. They will conclude the group stage against Egypt on Wednesday, 5 August, at the Olympic Stadium, Rabat.

That should be real panic ahead of next match because it’s still the same brains that couldn’t change tactics after the worst ever first half of any of our national teams i watched this year.

Morocco and Algeria match just finished showed 2 nations that came to play except Algeria has no finisher but their football has identity.

I completely agree with you, after the achievement of the last WAFCON, a responsible and ambitious NFF would have taken advantage of the moment by strengthening the technical team and playing against the elite team in women football, but what do we have, fools who have no ambition or understand how football works. The commentator on that day was mentioning how the Nigeria team had players coming together from different clubs in different parts of the world and you only gather them about 2 weeks to a major competition with only one friendly match against a Tanzania team and we expect them to perform magic. The team was clearly disjointed, disorganized and disoriented on the pitch, the coach even had to rely on using the team that played the last final whether they were fit or not, it’s just pathetic. I do not see them qualifying from this group, most of the players are even overweight.
The only solution is to keep out the olodos running our football!
