Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have crashed out of the WAFU B U-17 Championship in Burkina Faso, after drawing 1-1 with Côte d’Ivoire in their second Group B game on Saturday, completesports.com reports.
The Golden Eaglets needed to win to guarantee qualification to the semifinals, after losing 2-1 to Niger Republic in their opener.
On their part, Côte d’Ivoire kicked off their campaign with a 1-1 draw with Niger Republic.
But it was Côte d’Ivoire who took the lead in the 17th minute through Alex Bamba, who bundled home a corner.
With five minutes left to play the Golden Eaglets equalised thanks to Abiodun John but it was not enough as the Ivorians held on to join Niger Republic in the last four.
Following the draw with Côte d’Ivoire, the Golden Eaglets have now missed out on the chance to qualify for the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Also, failure to make it to the U-17 AFCON means the Golden Eaglets will not be at the 2027 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The last time Nigeria featured at the U-17 World Cup was at the 2019 edition in Brazil, where they reached the round of 16.

“We are Nigeria” has been booted out of WAFU B……Yes…….WAFU B U17 tournament in the first round in a group comprising Niger republic.
Forget about the quality of the players, I’ve seen the likes of coach hamilton, coach sebatian brodericks, chris udemezue, down to Fanny Amun, Late Musa Abdulahi, Godwin Izelien, down to the Manu Garbas and Nduka Ugbades of this world, I can say categorically and also defend it in a court of competent jurisdiction……”THIS IS BY FAR THE DULLEST YOUTH COACH WE’VE EVER HAD HANDLING ANY OF OUR YOUTH TEAMS’
No matter how poor a national U17 boys are in Nigeria, they can not go 6 or 7 international games without a win even if coached the a secondary school’s, sports prefect.
Once again, it shall not be well with whoever handed this job to this boy.
To think he was given the job ahead of a coach who had won several youth tournaments in Europe, including the Gothia Cup.
Oh…..what a country….?!
**CORRUPTION IN FOOTBALL MANAGEMENT,
**SENTIMENT IN APPOINTING COACHES AND
**PLAYERS PAYING BRIBING BEFORE SELECTED INTO TEAM SQUAD WILL NEVER MAKE OUR UNDER AGE TEAM MAKE AN EDGE IN ANY COMPETITION.
AND THIS WILL SPELL DOOM IN DISCOVERY GOOD YOUNG PLAYERS FOR SUPER EAGLE TEAM AND ALSO MAKE RISK FOR SUPER EAGLE NOT TO QUALIFY FOR NEXT WORLD CUP IN 2030.
