Waldrum Resigns As Super Falcons Head Coach

Randy Waldrum has resigned from his position as head coach of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, Super Falcons.

The 67-year-old cited his wife’s heath issues as reason for his decision to step down from the post.

“It’s been a very difficult few weeks following the Olympics, with my wife’s health issues, and the worries that obviously come with that,” stated the American.

” After much thought and consideration, I am hereby resigning my position as Head Coach of the Super Falcons. This will allow the NFF ample time to find the next manager to take over this incredible squad.”

Waldrum was appointed Super Falcons head coach on October 5, 2020.

The former Trinidad and Tobago gaffer rejected the post three years earlier.

He guided the team to fourth position at the 2022 Africa Women’s Nations Cup in Morocco.

The Super Falcons however put up a respectable showing at 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup where they bowed out on penalties to England in the Round of 16.

The nine-time African champions however failed to make it beyond the group stage in the women’s football event at the 2024 Olympic Games.

  • Oya NFF make una put Danjuma cos appointment na by quota system. YeYe dey smell

    • Whether you, AYthegreat, Kel, Dr Drey, Bomboy like it or not, Danjuma will be unveiled as the next Super Falcons coach. You can eat your heart out.

      AA toast to 9JaRealist; to us, we are the best.

      • I am angry Deo that you skipped my name. I demand an apology lol. Welcome back to the fold Onome Ebi who defies age in women soccer. Oh, Okobi is finally on board and all other players Waldrum ruined the prestige of their godfathers by ditching them. Finally, Gusau and his ilks’ dream of having “home grown” solutions as gaffers has worked out. Welcome to the dark days of female football walloping. Now, that is inevitable. Thankfully, FIFA rankings never forget. Let’s see how falcons perform.

        Did Waldrum resign from his USA football? No. He read the writing on the wall that NFF who pretended to train women coaches recently wanted to embarrass him. Tell me, how many matches do Super Falcons play in a year?

        Well, hope deferred makes the heart sick. I hope for nothing from the girls so…

      • Hahahaha @deo. I know Gusau will not bother throwing the post open. It’s going to be either of Madugu or Danjuma or their combo.

        But who will boss the other? Danjuma has held the role previously and might not be disposed to deputizing another Indigenous coach, while Madugu will rightly feel entitled to be upgraded as coach from his previous assistant role.

        I really was looking forward to the SF winning the next Afcon. As it is I have to tame my expectations with SA, Morooco, Cameroun, and Ghana all looking smoking hot. It would;dn’t be nice to take too long to reclaim the crown from the mouthy South Africans.

    The coast is now clear for their Madugu to have the Falcons all to himself, ably assisted by Danjuma….LMAOoo

    Henceforth, we should not expect selection by merit, little to no efforts at getting more foreign borns into the team and a deliberate weaning of the team off Foreign borns currently in the squad and more ‘home-based’ quota in the team.

    Lastly and most frightenly, another 16 years away from the olympics is in the horizon……LMAOooo

    • And what is wrong with Madugu-Danjuma combo for the Super Falcons?;? Were you holidaying in the brothels of Kaura Namoda when Madugu was destroying teams the likes of Comoros Island and Chad? Leave this site and let us fail with our own.

      What has Ifeoma Onumonu and Ashleigh Plumtre done for the Super Falcons that Chiwendu Ihezuo and Chidinma Okeke couldn’t do?

      It is people like you, Sylvester and Femi killing our football.

        deo, my best friend, I know that you too are disappointed at the performance of our girls. That is why your “support” for Danjuma is making me laugh.

      • Please, pray so much that NFF utilises the October and November windows for women friendlies and play against any lower rung European opposition with the very obvious home based coaches in the saddle. Kindly convince glasshouse to quickly arrange one or two friendlies in the coming weeks for falcons. Let’s see if it is not easy to compare apples and oranges.

        ===================

        For ease, let me list the windows

        21–30 October 2024:
        2 or at most 3 matches

        (5 weeks to that window is quite enough to have someone in charge of the team).

        =======================
        25 November – 7 December 2024: 2 or at most 4 matches

        =======================

        It will not be too hard to get other willing nations to play double header friendlies with us, abi.

        Waiting till the new year (WAFCON year) before arranging friendlies is not ideal.

    It’s about time, this part time coach is tired of earning easy money. All through his stay we fumbled, his record does not lie about his incompetence, we excused all his failures because he is white. A Nigerian coach would have been roasted for surrendering our title as african champions without a fight coming out 4th, not even second in the continent.Went to the world cup and was kicked out in the second round and his apologist applauded as if he won the world cup,and Nigeria had never made it past the first round before. It’s a shame, that even in Africa white privilege still rules.

  • Florence Omagbemi,Mercy Akide,Nkwocha,Maureen Madu etc should get the job.Not a Nigerian man.Orelse you get a world class coach among the know female managers.
    We never gave Waldrum a chance but he has put Super Falcons on the world stage.You scratch your head now when you hear you are playing Nigeria Super Falcons.NFF,please do not gamble with our future by bringing back your quota system coach and forcing players on your coach.Give Samson Siasia the job,if it has to be a Nigerian man.A sturbborn coach that will yield easily.And no bringing back of those who have served for years.We should be advancing and not retrogressing.

    The fearos association or inferiority campus who always think lowly of them sick Color because of history surrounding their circle. Wise how from those low mentality sold by Satan’s agent. Magudu will lead this team better than Waldrum I repeat it. So this this is a welcome news I hope his wife gets better. Goodluck to him!
