Ward-Prowse progress Pleases Hasenhuttl

Ralph Hasenhuttl has praised James Ward-Prowse’s recent progress at Southampton now that he’s added an aggressive streak to his game.

Ward-Prowse has been one of the most improved players at St Mary’s since Hasenhuttl came in as new boss, scoring three goals in his last five games.

The 24-year-old has demonstrated a tougher edge to his game in recent weeks, according to Hasenhuttl, and he’s delighted with his impact.

Hasenhuttl said: “I think I was very clear and very honest to him, which I think helps him a lot. “I think Prowsey has made a good development with his aggression because that’s what I missed from him the most when I came here.”

The midfielder has also proved his versatility by filling in at full-back and the Saints boss admits he’s proved his worth to the squad since he took charge in December.

He added in the Daily Echo: “He is a good footballing player and a nice guy, but now he showed that he can also be aggressive, win duels, win balls back and with his physical quality he can nearly play in every position.”

Ward-Prowse was in and out of the side in the first half of the season but that’s all changed since Hasenhuttl’s arrival as the one-capped England international has played the full 90 minutes in the last six games for Saints.
