Watford Chiefs Eye Further Progress

Watford owner Gino Pozzo and chairman Scott Duxbury say this year’s journey to the FA Cup final is “just the start” for the club. The Hornets battled their way to Wembley in the FA Cup, only to be swept aside by a rampant Manchester City side 6-0 in the final on Saturday.

It was Watford’s first major final since the 1984 FA Cup defeat to Everton and, even though it ended in defeat, both Pozzo and Duxbury are taking the positives from a season which has seen them progress under boss Javi Gracia. The duo believe the side will bounce back from their Wembley disappointment and envisage more good times ahead.

They said on the club’s website: “This is just the start of the club’s journey competing against the best. We may not always be able to be successful but we will not go away and will return unbowed, with renewed vigour and determination, to improve on the feats of this season.”

On top making it to Wembley, the Hornets were in contention for a top-10 finish for much of the Premier League campaign, although they ended up 11th after losing their last three games, and Pozzo and Duxbury believe the togetherness on dispaly at the club means they will continue to develop. They added: “We said right back in 2012 that if we are together then we can achieve great things. We have – and we will continue to do so.”
