Watford Defender Proud Of Performance

Watford defender Craig Cathcart was proud of their performance on Monday and insists Ben Foster will move on from his mistake.

Victory for Watford at home to Arsenal on Monday would have propelled them up to seventh in the Premier League, however, the game looked to be over with just 11 minutes on the lock.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave Arsenal the lead when he blocked Foster’s attempted clearance and Watford were reduced to 10-men just moments later.

Troy Deeney was adjudged to have thrown his forearm into the face of Lucas Torreira and referee Craig Pawson sent him down the tunnel.

Despite playing the majority of the game at a disadvantage, Watford created plenty of chances and were unlucky to come away on the losing side.

Cathcart praised the character shown by his teammates in difficult circumstances and feels they can be proud of their performance. “I don’t think this will effect us at all,” Cathcart told Watford’s official website. “We’ve put in a great performance given the way things went in the first 15 minutes. “We can be proud of how we played.

It was difficult and we had to run a lot but we can be very proud of ourselves. “We had 10 men but if anything it looked like they had the 10 men.

We had more possession, we had decent opportunities to score and we’re really disappointed coming off the pitch with nothing from the game.” The defender also backed Foster to move on quickly from his costly error.

He added: “It’s just one of those things. It happens now and again, people make mistakes. “Ben showed a great recovery from it. He made a great save to keep us in the game towards the end. He won’t think too much about it and he’ll move on.

He’s an experienced player.”
