‘We Are Equal To The Task’ –Eguavoen Confident Super Eagles Will Excel At AFCON 2021

Super Eagles interim head coach Austine Eguavoen has once again expressed confidence in his team’s ability to excel at the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, reports Completesports.com.

Eguavoen will lead the Super Eagles charge for a fourth continental title early next year in Cameroon following the sacking of Gernot Rohr.

The West Africans are drawn in Group D alongside Egypt , Guinea-Bissau, and Sudan.

They also have contend with heavyweights like Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Senegal to rule the continent again.

The former defender is however confident they can go all the way in the competition.

“Expectations are high, but we are equal to the task,” Eguavoen told Nigeria Info FM

“We want to try and bring smile on the faces of Nigerians at the AFCON.”

He said he hopes to do by playing “entertaining football pushing forward to score goals while also being mindful of the defence.

“We have intelligent players, who will play the way we want them to play,” he said.

“We want all 11 players working together.

“We will play with 11, attack with 11 and defend with 11.

That’s a man that knows his onions, ride on Coach. I see Eguavoen being called to coach German national side after winning AFCON good in Cameroon.

    • Friday 2 years ago

He he he, Baba, 2wks prep to a tourney, I see history being made.

      • Ali Gafar 2 years ago

@Friday, not just a tourney but Afcon. The good thing is Eguavoen and coach Yusuf are experienced Coaches. They are also blessed with experienced players.

        • Damian 2 years ago

… players like Musa, Odion and V.Moses.

          • @Damian leave Victor Moses out of your mouth if you don’t know ball leave our legend who Eguavoen knows is a star man for him. We have the double Vic antidote use your brains biko.

You Sha just want to comment. Coach German national side… LMFAO!!!

    • Mirah 2 years ago

If I talk now, dem go talk say I don come again. you sef reason this your comment

  • With all the records and files shown so far, we can’t shoot our legs, here the super eagles crew should ensure cohesion of purpose and avoid distractions/elements of frustration. Go Eagles! Go Nigeria!!

    • Kunle bambi 2 years ago

@Bola, avoid elements of frustration? hmmm! You forgotten comments are free. Anyways, Coach Egu knows his aim and objective, what he wants for his boys. Good luck our SE!

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

My own is that you people should not digress from the main objective of why you fired GENERAL ROHR. And that is bringing the Afcon trophy home..

    • Respect is Reciprocal 2 years ago

@Monkey we are not putting pressure on Eguavon to bring the cup home your coach ROHR couldn’t do it in so many years so can we be so daft to now ask a coach who is just taking over in two weeks to do what an old big head man could not do in many years. By the way try and make research before you spit words out my brother ROHR was not sacked because Of Nations Cup only but for the trend of failure that has been following Eagles and the fact that ROHR was complacent with those irregularities. Imagined a coach saying super eagles draw with caper verde is like a victory to him then you know such a coach has nothing more to offer the team. Eagles have been struggling to put plays together under ROHR and if care is not taking we won’t go to World Cup which is what NFF doesn’t want because of the largesse they will get from FIFA and because of reactions that will emanate from Nigeria which might eventually snowball to EFCC chasing Picknic and Co . The Nigeria government is sensitive to issues that will make Nigerian angry as they want something that will divert our attention from the poverty insecurity hunger joblessness ravaging the country. I tell you the truth am on street I know how guys rush to watch premiership and champions league to ease pressure on them so when you add Nation cup and World Cup matches you can see next year will be a soothing years. Do you know how many young guys that will have committed suicide but because they watch matches and talk about live football they can not think along negative line again. I tell you the truth it was not Picknic that wanted ROHR out it’s the federal government that wanted to keep the volatile youth calm. If you want to doubt me check all the names people have been clamoring to be included in super Eagles all these days are they not being considered now they can feel our anger and they read comments on platforms like this. So Monkey Post let’s us in the spirit of oneness and togetherness support this man to succeed. From what I heard from him it seems he under the Nigeria football. I love you all the Bible says love covers multitude of sin/ weakness. Let’s forget about who Equavon is not and hope he will perform his success will bring joy to all of us and at least reduce the hardships we are all facing in this country for some time. I remembered when we won our last nation cup under Keshi my wife and children could see joy and happiness in me for a month because I felt fulfilled.

      • Dennis 2 years ago

@respect is reciprocal. You said Rohr could not bring the trophy after many years. How many tournaments did he go to? 2-world cup and AFCON. Prior to Rohr taking charge, we had missed 2 consecutive nations cup and Rohr took us to the semis, finished 3rd in an AFCON this is no more 16 teams but 32,meaning it became a lot harder to win. However, since Rohr finished 3rd and eguavoen has coached us before and isn’t new to Nigerian football, he must go higher than Rohr did. Rohr was sacked because the NFF was trying to avoid a disaster at the AFCON so that means whoever was employed to replace Rohr was one deemed better than Rohr
        Let’s see how things unfold

        • Mirah 2 years ago

Anyone is allowed to kill himself if Eguavon happens not to win the Afcon …Awon Rohr balls licker gbogbo

  • I don’t take audio ginger serious anymore, especially if it’s from a Nigerian. Let the pitch and your strategies speak for you. Biko

  • Friday 2 years ago

Baba Okemute, was that for you?

Well, I like what the coach said that expectations are high, but they are equal to the task. That’s a truthful coach and well intune with what the country feels.

  • Henry Farle 2 years ago

Even with only few days, this will be historical and it might just be the first in the globe… @friday.

  • Baba Okemute 2 years ago

@Friday, like frustration forgot the @sign at home. I don’t know if it’s for me. My concern is how my country will triumph in Cameroon, lift the Afcon cup and bring it to Abuja. I can’t wait to see our SE match against Egypt on the 11th. Up Nigeria!!!
See you, have to work now.

  • Eagles Fan 2 years ago

Mheeen! That opener is gonna be tough with players like Mo Salah but trust SE to be equal to the task. Coach Eguas is both a purposeful and entertainment Coach. Like we got the tiki-taka something up.

    • Golden Child 2 years ago

I like the way Eguavoen talks, confident and honest. A team is always a reflection of the coach and one can only begin to imagine what his SE would look like.
Imagine you as a player hearing your coach talk about winning the world cup, you will start to believe. The tRuth is Rohr would never have won any trophy because of his tentative mindset. in sharp contrast, Rohr would say things like “other teams are better than us, we are not favourites “, “we do not have world class players”. Always talking down on his team.

Leadership is all about inspiration, making people dare to dream. It was said that jose mourinho once told lampard when he first arrived that he was the best midfielder in the world.if anyone knew lampard at west ham, he was just your average joe but his coach inspired him to be great and the rest they say is history.

However, Coach Egus, get to work and stop the talk.

  • Raphael Ituma 2 years ago

Frustration can type long stories. And who’s still talking about Roar??? Thank God our Head Coach has a winning mentality. God bless my country.

    • Lopar 2 years ago

  • God bless you Eguavoen. That’s the spirit.

Eyaa, he doesn’t want us to digress o. Una hear? I know it won’t be quite long for frustration to turn explainer with style. Watchout! !
Well, my happiness is when we win our first 3 matches, then progress to the next stage. Our own coach said sometimes ago that it will be one step after the other.

  • Ako AMADI 2 years ago

Eguavoen is “equal to the task.” but has not even trained the players for one minute, and possibly doesn’t know some of them by name.

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

My brother @Respect is Reciprocal good to read from you. I almost asked after you cos I miss your wonderful analysis here. I am not against Eguavon. I just called for all eyes to be focus on the price as a patriotic Nigerian who wants to win big instead of all this distractions…

We are still saying the same thing. The NFF or the FG as you claim felt that with all the irregularities and all the rightful players not being on the list etc under Rohr the team will go no where in terms of bringing the trophy home. And so he was fired. Rohr has already used the 5 years to build a team, so used that team to give us the Afcon 2021. Remember he came third the last Afcon after he was hired and after we failed to qualify twice. So am sure he would have brought home the trophy because the chemistry and everything is already there It’s as simple as that. They knew it was a wrong timing (3 or 2 weeks left) and they went ahead to fire him..SMH…

    • Garre 2 years ago

Which yeye team Rhor even build ? Una go just dey talk anyhow. You guys are just being sentimental and biased.Team wey no fit put one or two passes together abi which team? Remember he came third the last Afcon after he was hired and after we failed to qualify twice. So am sure he would have brought home the trophy because the chemistry and everything is already there It’s as simple as that” like say football na 1+1=2 .Poor analysis there Monkey post

Cape Verde coach gave a very truthful and honest assessment of that Rohr’s team after that second leg. Rohr followers no see say that team no fit hold possession for 3 minutes…poor team out of good talents

        • @Garre and Mirah, you guys are very myopic. If Eguavoen can dare it. He should assemble a new team including a goal keeper in 2 weeks. Let us see if that is not a recipe for failure because you are trying to discredit someone’s work. Ego will not kill both of you.

This Man, it’s very easy to talk. Go to the pitch and bring us results. You are still struggling just to release your 40 man provisional lists just a few weeks to the main tournament.

Any way you are still talking bring confidence back to the Eagles unlike Mr.Rohr whom comments always lack confident, mixture with MY TEAM IS STILL A YOUNG TEAM FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS IN OPERATION.

ANYWAY, Nigeria’s are used to excused. After the AFCON, WE WILL HEAR ANOTHER TALE BY MOON LIGHT STORY.

    • Garre 2 years ago

Una go just dey talk in ignoranc3 . Una Rhor don already submit list and the only thing him fit do na to appeal to Caf to add and subtract few names from the provisional list una Rhor already submitted. And na process e go take so em no dey within em power to do otherwise. Em now depend on Caf to accept em request or reject am. Abi una think say na just on paper rhor submit the list ? List wey dem don already submit since November give Caf.

This man Eguavoen talks too much. Far from Rohr. And funny enough the blind followers are hailing a talkative as one with confidence. Lol.. real men don’t talk too much.. You all know what they say about empty vessels right?? Good luck Nigeria!

BROTHER REAL MEN TALK IN MODERN DAY FOOTBALL .PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW YOUR LEVEL OF INTELLIGENCE AND HOW WELL YOU UNDERSTAND THE GAME, PLAYERS . EUROPEAN COACHES TALK A LOT BUT THEY DONT BRAG, MOST TIMES THE WAY COACHES TALK CAN RAISE OR LOWER THE MORAL OF THEIR PLAYERS. EGUAVOEN IS NOT TALKING TOO MUCH ,HE HAS ONLY SPOKE ABOUT THE PATTERN OF PLAY WHEN WESTAHOF WAS THE HEAD HE NEVER SAID HE INVENTED THE TACTICS, I THINK HE IS TRYING TO TAKE US BACK TO THAT ERA, SO TELL ME WHAT HAS HE SAID THATS TOO MUCH. BACK TO YOUR DUMB ROHR THOUGH ALWAYS SILENT YET HE KEPT SAYING HIS TEAM HIS YOUNG AND THAT NIGERIA IS NOT AMONG TOP AFRICAN PLAYING NATIONS WHO HAVE BETTER ESTABLISHED STARS LIKE SALAH OF EGYPT,MANE OF SENEGAL,MAHREZ OF ALGERIA BUT AM SURPRISED THAT MAN RECENTLY SAID IF HE HAD BEEN BE GIVEN OPPORTUNITY HE WOULD HAVE WON THE NATION CUP THIS TIME ,ROHR NEVER SOUNDED POSITIVE LIKE THIS THROUGH ALL HIS STAY AS EAGLES COACH. I KNOW WHAT HE IS TRYING TO DO HE WANTS US TO PUT PRESSURE ON EQUAVERON WHICH WE WILL NEVER DO..
PLEASE BE CORRECTED AND NEVER CALL OUR LEGEND EMPTY VESEL, IF YOU ARE A LOADED VESSEL YOU WILL SEE SENSES IN WHAT HE SAID IN THE INTERVIEW HE GRANTED PLEASE GO AND WATCH THE YOUTUBE BROTHER.

      • Marvelous 2 years ago

Mr man you are wicked to say Rohr have spent many years in Nigeria without a trophy. Are you counting years or you are counting tournament attended? Rohr has only been to just 1 AFCON and 1 world cup. Which he took bronze in the first Afcon and aiming for gold in the second one coming soon. Which one is Rohr have spent 5 years as if he has been to 5 AFCON.

      • Mirah 2 years ago

They will never see anything good in whatever Eguavon does. That guy no dey watch Thomas Tuchel interviews. There’s a way you talk as a coach and won’t sound as if you’re bragging and your audience will feel seriousness in you…it’s common sense . That Rohr na fraud

        • You are as confused as your statement. Eguavoen that is talking with certainty and Rohr speaks with caution. I forget, Nigerians like hype and not taking caution, only to reach the an event and it fails.
That is the same way you guys were hyping the local team that played Mexico only to reach the match and under 2 seconds the team had conceded.
          Rubbish talk full na mouth.

          • Mirah 2 years ago

Tell me you’ve comprehension problem instead. Rohr was just so timid! I understand that he was tryna act like an underdog but baba went so so low, your love for that fraud can’t make you admit all these

  • MuYiwa 2 years ago

I even learnt that the NFF is planning to employ a certain Jose Peseiro, a former Real Madrid Asst coach under Jose Mourinho. The sad thing is that the man has a poor resume. But the good thing is that the man was owed 14 months salary at his last job, the Venezuela National team, so he is used to NFF gbese kind of thing. LOL.

    • Why is Eguavoen giving interviews here and there and hasn’t released his list up till now. Let’s be reminded that we heard of a 40 man provisional list submitted by Rohr but up till now. No public announcement has been made as who the 40 players Are???

What is taking time??? Sudan and Egypt in our group have announced their players. Yet our supposed 40 man list was ready before them. Why doesn’t NOT announce it???
Egunje is loading putting the players on tension. Again back to the old ways. Truth be told I don’t understand this situation. Like what is Eguavoen and NFF waiting for???

Let’s not forget there is Omnicron variant around now and ravaging some premiership clubs. We haven’t announced our team yet so the players selected by Rohr don’t know if they will be released by their clubs because of COVID. Buy our coach is busy making press conference up and down promising us a great performance. Yet no attempt to list the players and see if the club’s will release them.

We day wait o. If it is by mouth we will carry AFCON in 2022, we shall all know for sure.

      • KING TUOYO 2 years ago

Don’t be ignorant bro. The list was submitted last month by the former Coach to CAF. If you are updated, you will know that Eguaveon has written to CAF to make some additions to the list. Stop heaping all Nigeria’s blame on his head.

If CAF fails to grant or reject his request, then will the list be made public by the NFF.

BEN, get informed before speaking Bangladesh.

        • @KING TUOYO.
It’s not about ignorance bro. If a list has been submitted to CAF by last month, then answer me why they haven’t released it to the press.
All this sentiments like Eguavoen mentioned this and that in the press is all sentiments to confuse people like you. We are close to the camping date, still team list is not publicly announced and you think it’s ok to be in the dark on it because it is our own you are supporting.
          Sentimental bullshit.

Did Egypt and Sudan not send their list to CAF before they released it to the press???

We should be calming down abi???
Make we wait and see now

          • Mirah 2 years ago

Wetin u wan even take the list do?? To see if your favourite player isn’t included and start your cry on CSN which will definitely end on CSN. Now tell me, of what significance is it to you than what I’ve mentioned. You’re just looking for things to blame Eguavon for.

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

@MuYiwa The NFF is the biggest problem of Nigerian football to be candid. They don’t want to spend money to get us a quality coach with Rich CV that’s why they have gone for a cheaper coach(Eguavon) and are still ready to bring in the next one…If not when was the last time Eguavon coached a team? What happened to the under-23 team he coached? What about our semi final Afcon game against Ivory coast? He flooded the pitch with inexperienced players and left our best legs on the bench. He caused us that game, if not we would qualify for the final and won the trophy.

Even if you ask world class coaches like their Mourinho and Guadiola they will tell you that’s not a poor stats and profile.

  • Hassan Tia 2 years ago

Eguavoen wants to play a total or comprehensive football which means all players attack when Super Eagles attack , then all players defend when SE lack the ball or around blockade of the rival; so I think Eguavoen can form the tactic on requirement of situation of SE on current match.on Egypt match Eguavoen must play with a tight and strong tactic which presses Egyptian team and then SE must not grant any loopehole for Egytian players just like Mohammed Salah; Eguavoen must tackle Moh. Salah with three defensive midfielders like Ndidi, Iwobi, Usman Moh.; close the rest strong Egyptian key players; close any chance from Egyptian team to penetrate SE defence; withdraw Osimhen from his function under shadow of the attacking midfielders in order to come from the back of midfield.

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

Haba @Hassan Tia even though am not an Eguavon follower that your analysis no follow. Let me come in a bit. Cos after all Nigeria is still my country. And SE is still my team. You don’t do that instead you try to stop the pass from getting to Salah. Lock the middle. If you create 2 much attention on one player, they can decide to switch/divert attention before you recover it will be too late and they will strike you hard. 3 players on one guy is too much. Even Messi self. Let’s just concentrate and train one guy so hard for the job so we don’t create loopholes in other departments..

But was forced to come out) you are just All over the place with your weak and chidish defense mechanism of corrupt people that have no vision for our sports. From your comments I can deduce that you are a child who doesn’t know the history of Nigeria football.just having the privilege of having a phone and free data to comment. If CSN were to be checking age and value before you get in, some of you wouldn’t be here cos your comments are not football related atall. So disjointed. Just defending people you don’t know. Sometimes you need to say the truth despite being a die hard fan. I support Eguavoen too but you see that pinick and his crew are terrible. Up untill this time no list. And you think no permutations, bribe collecting is going on? Come on as if you people use your anus and not your head sometimes.

    • Mirah 2 years ago

I ain’t even saying there are no permutations going on behind the scene, moreover, we know our country. But why will anyone just choose to crucify Eguavon for the delay in list announcement? do you think he has the guts to say No to pinnick? I want to believe some people understand my point here, they just choose to pretend because they don’t like Eguavon’s face.

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

Won’t tag u and stoop that low. Now you are failing to understand something here not that we the rohr supporters don’t know what to say. As a matter of fact we are top notch, spot on, legendary when it comes to analysis. But we have decided not to support evil, gang up, unfair treatment and injustice whether it is being melted out on “our own” or not. We have decided to Sidan dey look till una bring dey cup home. Cos if they don’t need our support and advise when sacking GENERAL ROHR, am sure they won’t be needing it anytime soon.

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

    *For the first time*

  • @Mirah you are also making disjointed comments like a psycho. How can you compare Tuchel and Eguaveon?

    • Mirah 2 years ago

I guess one is an animal while the other is human. Some of you don’t think deep before you type . comparing how tactically vocal Tuchel is to that of Eguavon is a disjointed comment (and I was just bringing up an example of another coach who speaks in details about tactics during press duties, if Tuchel can do it, why not Eguavon?). It’s more reason I don’t comment here but I’ve been forced of late to give some people what they deserve.

      • @Garret and Mirah, it is obvious you just open your mouth to say waaaaa! And no sense to it. Where you not claiming that typing here a while ago that Rohr didn’t build any team.
Again I will say this, if Eguavoen likes he can submit another 28 man list outside of what Rohr has submitted.
Abi is he not stubborn again???
I dare him to do that. I know both of you, Mirah and Garret, your ego is much louder than your brain. That’s is the only reason you can open your mouth to say rubbish.

I was commending Pinnick fundraising efforts which should be commended despite other issues faced by the NFF. Is Pinnick the whole NFF???
There are other distractors to his effort that have been placed by the Minister and other governmental agencies. If you don’t know this then I guess you haven’t even worked for a corporate organization before. That is why you can open your mouth waaaaaa.
Even Pinnick has his own issues he needs to sort out personally. But he met an empty NFF account and the allocation given to him by FG gets exhausted by just holding 1 international match for Super Eagles.

If you do not know this, then shut up!

Don’t spread your ignorance disease here.As for Mirah, you don’t want to say that there are no permutations going on behind the scenes, but you don’t want to admit that those permutations might affect the team performance???

It’s very obvious you do not know what to say when the Football management comes up as a subject. Oh, I forget your understanding of football management ends with Coach Eguavoen abi???
You have not considered that if the team list is not released to the press, the players might not be released by their clubsises on time because they didn’t receive the information quickly or
That the fact that the players might not be in a great mental and physical state to play at AFCON or that the players might even revolt because Rohr was sacked and He has gained the confidence of many players under him which might be a distraction to Eguavoen and co
Or the shear fact that they dont like the way they might have heard or seen the way Eguavoen addresses players??
No your daft and empty brains are just saying ” ah shebi don wan fight NFF na, over person way dem don sack, see mumu o”. Total rubbish and local he-goat mentality.
        Stinking egufe.

Since you don’t know what it means to preside. I stopped reading at that point I noticed you seem not to know what it means to be President.

          Keep defending your paymaster.

I’m not in mood to give you hot hot, I mean what you really deserve, thank your lucky stars
