‘We’re Doing The Talking On The Pitch’ –Eguavoen Claims Super Eagles Have Silenced Critics

‘We’re Doing The Talking On The Pitch’ –Eguavoen Claims Super Eagles Have Silenced Critics

Super Eagles interim head coach Austine Eguavoen says the team have proved doubters wrong after they recorded their third win at 2021 Africa Cup of against Guinea-Bissau on Wednesday night, reports Completesports.com.

Eguavoen’s men defeated Guinea-Bissau 2-0 with Sadiq Umar and William Troost-Ekong getting the goals.

The Super Eagles were widely criticised for their poor displays in some of their games before the start of the competition.

The lack of adequate preparation further cast doubt on their chances of winning a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title.

But the team put up impressive performances in all three group games and have now been labelled favorites to win the competition by many.

Eguavoen, who only took charge of the team on the eve of the AFCON, reckoned his players have exceeded expectations.

“Nobody gave this team a chance before the Nations Cup, but we have proved doubters wrong with the way we have played here, “Eguavoen told the media after the game against Guinea-Bissau.

“We will keep doing the talking on the pitch irrespective of what people have said or are still saying.

“The group stage is now behind us and we look forward to the knockout round which is very important.

“This is not the time to rest, but the time to work very hard. We hope things will keep going in our favour.”

Tighten your belt, coach. This is when the men will be separated from the boys! The stage is now set for the real hostilities. You’re equal to the task.

    Good luck.

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

LMFAO!!! Mehn.. This dude will make name for himself in the stand up comedy industry more than as a coach.. LMFAO.. you’av proved doubters wrong with a team you inherited???(GENERAL ROHR’s TEAM)

You’av proved doubters wrong with only group stage matches filled with weak ass team(Sudan and GB) apart from Egypt?? LMFAO!!!!!!

    • Should he have invited a different set of players? Why are you not appreciative of this guy? Under Rohr, was the team as enterprising as this? Common, give credit where it’s due man

      • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

@Wale He should proved critics wrong by bringing the trophy home. Simple! That is what everyone is waiting for. And that is why you see the likes of Mourinho are being celebrated. Trophy matters not the wing or attacking football. Cos if you do all that without the trophy it is still a failure.(according to Diouf) Apart from the Egypt game, the sudan and GB victory didn’t come as a surprise. GENERAL ROHR’S left the tools for him to use actualize it. So he should stop jumping upndan cos the party never start. It is too early to say you have “proved” critics wrong. He didn’t even say he is proving critics wrong LMAO. With the word there “proved”, it means he has already concluded. LMAO! Come on there are still more games to go and stronger teams to beat before making such claim.

    • Steve O 2 years ago

Evil minded man , take your “our team is very young” coach Rohr to be tutored by Cicero Eguavoen !!..the difference is clear bro!!..The super Eagles is lifting this cup !!..if Equitorial Guinea couldn’t mess around with us , I don’t think any team can do that again .This team is dominant , impenetrable, assertive and goal minded !!…this team is one of the best Nigeria have ever assembled and I pray God to crown thier efforts with the Afcon cup !!

      • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

LMFAO!! Did you play Equitoria Guinea or Guinea Bissau?? Anyways I understand you made an error. But don’t tell me you are now rating GB ahead of Egypt? Because you guys got lucky? LMAO! That will be the disrespect of the highest order. But in all, my advice for all you Eguavon supporters is to brace up yourself cos you are yet to play strongest team.. LMAO!

    • KangA 2 years ago

Nobody owns any team in Nigeria. Rohr was employed by NFF and sacked by NFF, period. You may not have liked the manner he was shown the door, but such parting methods are inherent in the coaching business. Remember, he was let off from two other countries before. How irrational to think that he will coach the SE for ever.

      Let’s move on please.

    • Ifeoluwa Oni 2 years ago

Yes, he proved the doubters wrong, the team he inherited that Rohr does know how to use. If Nigeria did not win the Afcon or even get to the semi final, I will still appreciate his brand of football, and will rather have it that way that win a World cup with unrecognizable and lazy pattern of play by Rohr.

The worse thing about Rohr is that, he doesn’t have a winning mentality, he plays to avoid losing rather than play to win.

He believes all big teams in Africa are better than Nigeria be cause they have players playing in Liverpool or PSG.

I know a lot about success psychology and I have applied it to achieve some personal success. I have known that Rohr doesn’t have a winning mentality for more than two years now, he has been destroying our players psychologically for too long.

Thank God NFF showed him the exit.

      • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

Progressive forumites can you hear your fellow @Ifeoluwa Oni “If Nigeria did not win the Afcon or even get to the semi final, I will still appreciate his brand of football, and will rather have it that way that win a World cup with unrecognizable and lazy pattern of play by Rohr.” LMAO! after you people will be claiming patriotic and well meaning Nigerians. How can you make statement like that? Anyway am not surprised. If your president @JimmyBall can say it is better to fail with our own than to succeed with a foreigner, who are you?.. LMAFO!!

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

LMFAO! Next thing now, you will play maybe comoros or some best looser qualified weak as team and when you win, you will run to the press and say you have proved critics wrong. LMAFO! Mehn. This man will give basketmouth a run for his money in the comedy world. LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

He’s referring to the hassles that surrounded the team’s preparations. Sacking a team’s coach is also one of them.

People like you are waiting for the team to fail, so you’ll say “I told you so!”. Even if they win the AFCON, you’d still find something negative to say.

      • Mirah 2 years ago

It’s your name for me, I like it. Hunt all monkeys you find on this street. Thank you

My guy ,I know.you are joking. You.just want to attract attention. Deep inside you, You are so happy with the way things are going, unless you are enemy of the Nation. But on a more Serious note. Our Super Eagles are playing really well. All the players are putting in their best, their commitment is superb and the coaches tactics is really working. We create numerous chances in all our matches so far and we are always looking deadly when attacking. The midfield is compact and the defence looks pretty solid, Another Good thing is that we have 6 different scorers for all our goals including defenders.I have watched all the teams Play and sincerely speaking, The Super Eagles are the most impressive so far, closely followed by Cameroon and Morocco

    • Steve O 2 years ago

Evil man , I thought you said Comoros is no push over cause they beat Ghana, that why should Nigerians blame your “Our team is very young” coach Rohr for eagles defeat in the hands of minnows CAR etc ? ….don’t worry , which ever team we meet merited it and we will deal with them accordingly as far as Cicero Eguavoen is in charge , rest assured we are bringing the cup home .Please tell your “our team is very young ” Coach Rohr that Ghana is looking for a new coach !!

    • Papafem 2 years ago

You need to come out of your hiding and stop pretending to be a Nigerian, because you are not. Rohr’s team? National team na Rohr’s property? He was looking for players up and down but didn’t know how to use them to get results. Catastrophic football every now and then. And he was an expert in crafting excuses to cover his ineptitude. The sane team he didn’t even have confidence in. Today, our players are not playing in Liverpool and Real Madrid. Tomorrow, they are too young to win a world cup match. If the pitch in Lagos is not good today, the absence of this player or that player will be responsible for our loss tomorrow. Excuses everywhere! It’s only a poor workman that quarells with his tools. If he’s got the talent to look for good players, we can employ him to be our Chief Scout then, not our Chief Coach.

      • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

LMAO. I don’t know about the excuses you talking about. But all I can say is that na because party never start na em make you guys think Eguavon is now the Messiah.

Even during the GB game when sadiq was not in the game, you guys came out hailing Rohr for not inviting him. But when he scored calmness now came. So you see relax. Party never start. When e start, same you people will change mouth (hypocrites) and crucify him. LMFAO!

    • William d conqueror 2 years ago

@monkey what is your problem? The team is winning and playing well, you are still complaining. Rohr is history, deal with it.

    • Football Business 2 years ago

Nothing team is weak in today’s football world. Every team should be respected cuz the same Comoros was able to qualified from their group and they play some of the countries you see as big team. So far in this tournament, Super Eagles and the Morocco team seems to be the best playing teams other big names not playing as expected. I understand your point that it is not time to jubilate yet but let us appreciate what they have achieved so far earning all the 9 points. Other big teams have smaller teams in their groups but many of them could not earn the 9points even Ghana is out and the defending champion Algeria not playing as expected too. So let us encourage the Nigerian team for their playing
      power and points simple

  • Babad 2 years ago

Guys, I can confirm to you that @monkeypost is a Ghanaian. Don’t mind him.

    • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

LMAO! Keep lying to yourself.. If am a Ghanian it would have been some how better cos they knew they wouldn’t go far with an average team like that. But not this star studded Nigerian team that Eguavon copy and pasted, claiming victory against Sudan and GB and maybe next comoros and then throwing fireworks all around the forum as if he won the trophy. LMAFO!

      • Papafem 2 years ago

Let the “copier” and the “paster” give us the cup the so called author couldn’t give us with his content. We will be happy. History only remembers who wins what not who gave what! It’s obvious Eguaveon’s performance dey choke u. You will not witness his failure with this team in a life time!

  • Chima E Samuels 2 years ago

Eguavoen kindly Focus and don’t allow these victory to enter you. It’s too soon to start negative talks, majority have moved on and rallying round the team. Don’t invite bad energy and get a shock result then the devil will expose your weakness as human. Maintain humility and keep conquering.

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

LMAO! Ole! Be there and be changing username. If you are proud enough to be supporting your own, you should be bold enough to make comments with your real I.D. LMAO!

    • MONKEY POST,
What is your real name since you are not changing? Or are Amuneke?

      • Ife Oni 2 years ago

@Luku: Even Amuneke knows he lacks the qualities to coach a national side and be successful if that is the reason behind his bile. Only a little minded person wouldn’t see the transformation coach Eguavoen has done with the national team.

        • Olakunle Garuba 2 years ago

Which of the Amuneke? The one that failed with the Taifa Stars of Tanzania? Eguavoen has gone many steps ahead that one na. To have won all the 3 group stage matches single him out as the best coach in AFCON as it were. God bless Nigeria.

  • Jide Dola 2 years ago

This team has been very solid, creating chances and have done wonderfully well by denying opponent of getting close to our defence, buh there is one thing that is needed to be taken care of. This team has missed a lot of scoring chances which is the only problem am seeing in this team, which the only thing that can stop this team from coming back with trophy. This is nockout stage where you may not have plenty of chances. This stage is about taken your chances, if you don’t take your chances you might see yourself being eliminated with a team you are than through penalty since anyone can win penalty shoot. All the same, I pray luck shine on us throughout this competition. Talking about our striking force Awoniyi still remains our top striker and the better option for substitution will be Olayinka. Eguavoen will need to talk to Awoniyi t always be calm in front of goal. For Sadiq I guess he’s trying to play to coaches instruction which is affecting his game. And this could be mistake from Eguavoen, I see that he always want to run with ball, buh I see him as a striker that will want to old on with the ball, shield the ball for his team mates to join him up front and sometimes commit his marker to win fowl. For the second round, I guess we will be playing against Tunisia or Seria Leone.

  • Raphael 2 years ago

Good luck coach, we are aware that some few had wished and are labouring for their own to be SE coach, hopefully coach of their country. Within a short time, you proved your mantle while the doubting thomases are now our own analysts/entertainers. Up Super Eagles, Up Nigeria.

  • MuYiwa 2 years ago

Egu has done excellently well within a short time and should be appreciated. But jus like he himself has said this is not the time to rest as the competition is geting hotter.

  • I love his last statement of the truth the team has been playing very well and also the team has been lucky with most decisions favour us so far. The 2 goals were scary but VAR decision favours us at the end of the day whereas most incidents like that were chalked off. Once again well-done guys and go bring the cup.

  • Bomboy 2 years ago

MONKEY POST IS NOT A NIGERIAN

Even Dr. Drey, who happens to be the Chief Patron of the “sidon look Club”, came out on a few occasions to congratulate the team for their victory. But Monkey Post gets angry when we win!

Even if Rohr was wrongfully sacked (the current results prove otherwise), does that imply that you can no longer rejoice when the Eagles win??? Yesterday, while others were congratulating the team after the win, he was totally silent. The only comment he later made was to express disappointment at the comment of one of his fellow “sidon look” member who got tired of sitting down and decided to stand up to cheer the Eagles. Monkey Post was disappointed that the guy had decamped. This proves that all he cares about is to preserve the “legacy’ of the former coach who happens to be his idol.

Boy, just because your user name is Monkey Post does not imply that you should be acting like a monkey!

    • Mirah 2 years ago

      My brother!
      I no fit laugh o

His name is ‘”Monkey Post” that explains why his comments are like that.

    • “A Sidon person who got tired of sitting down had to stand up to applaud the Super Eagles”

Very classic and hilarious from you Bomboy.

  • Grant 2 years ago

@Raphael ….Our own analysts,I would add, explainer…Abi you don giam work for Complete Sports?

Coach Egua, nothing do you as our plan is to have you take the Super Eagles to the World cup to the shame of our ‘own doubters,. Good luck coach!!!

  • Damian 2 years ago

Shooou! So because we prevented his ‘own Amuneke’, Egbo to be appointed as coaches that is why he is on every thread abusing an established performer in person of coach Eguavoen? He must be mad then, and if his other idiots are online, tell him Amuneke couldn’t coach an Egyptian club side and infact, jobless because no club is interested in a failure. Serious.
Eguavoen, the doubters are negligible and are already suppressed. Go on doing your think and God bless as we look forward to the cup proper.

    • Bello 2 years ago

Na small boy dey worry am. Tomorrow he will still come and analyse for us how his tribal people should be selected by the same coach Eguavoen.
Wetin we elders saw while sitting down under the tree jejeje is what d small boy can never see while on top of an iroko tree. We love our S.E and the coaching staffers, and very happy with the games they have won. My prayers are with them as they win their remaining matches in our lovely green and white colours. God bless Nigeria.

      • Frank H 2 years ago

Those agitated juju like colours are what some people like o. Somebody fit get mad with your comment o. God bless FRN.

  • Christopher Ekpen 2 years ago

    Damian,

So it is because Amuneke was not considered for Eagles coach that is why small bomboy is still bitter. He must remain so then. Anyways, Congrats Cerezo as history is been made.

    • Samuel Owherein 2 years ago

I was wondering what his problem was. But Amuneke sacked because of poor performance, so it looks stupid for anyone to be considering such a person for Eagles coach. Well, it’s possible he has other reasons. Meanwhile, let’s look forward to the remaining matches.

  • Julius Uko 2 years ago

Ha ha ha, “our own doubters”, @Grant, ha ha ha.

  • When I said those supporting the return of Ighalo are satanic, people thought I didn’t know what I was saying…….Now please observe the Monkey post dude and you will realize that he was at the fore front of the campaign to return Ighalo to SE…….This set of people don’t want victory for SE…….they come out in the open to support but in the secret they pray for the team to fail…….They quickly support any idea that will bring backwardness to SE…….they strongly oppose any idea that will bring progress…….they are always against any upcoming talent coming up to be included in SE but always support any old outdated player because they are against progress……They only supported Rhor because they knew nothing would come out of him interms of leading us to a silverware……..Thank God the truth is coming out…….The witch is confessing

  • Lawrence 2 years ago

    @Julius Uko,

This your ha ha ha self is very toxic. Please allow him to further explain to us. …LMFAO… You can never tell, it is still possible to appoint ‘his own’ as coach which is like the head of an elephant passing through the hole of a needle.

Coach Eguavoen said he has proved his doubters wrong by the work of the his boys on the pitch. That is actually correct.
