West Brom Boss Bruce Praises Ajayi For Improvements

West Brom manager Steve Bruce says Nigeria defender Semi Ajayi has improved his game in recent times, reports Completesports.com.

Ajayi was the Baggies best player in last Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship opening day 1-0 win against Middlesbrough at the Hawthorns.

The 28-year-old’s upturn in form has coincided with Steve Bruce’s arrival at the club.

Bruce took charge of the Baggies in February this year.

The former Newcastle manager stated that he has noticed a big step up from the Nigeria international.

“Ajayi I have to say, he’s improved enormously since I’ve walked through the door,” Bruce was quoted by Express and Star.

“I’ve enjoyed watching him, he’s a hell of a good defender. When he’s like he was on Saturday he’s big, strong, powerful, quick, he gave a mountain of a performance, especially second half.”

  • Hmmm…like play like play, this guy is currently the best super eagles defender and he plays in championship. Chai. Shame!!
I will advise our handlers to start switching nationalities of some players and probably call back Akpoguma and Ebuehi.
Torunarigha is there in Belgium, Udokhai Wolfsburg, Jonas David Hamburg, Tosin Fulham, Osayi-Samuel Fernerbace, Felix Agwu Werder Bremen, Ebosele Udinese. etc. we need to move fast before it’s too late. We can’t continue depending on
Shehu Clubless, Ekong Bench, Balogun Clubless , Awaziem Croatia, Omeruo Bench,  Fact!

    @sean,
you’ve always been, and will continue to be, a good soccer analyst and Nigerian patriot.

    • Respect @Kingston . It’s so sad that even Country like Ghana have regular defenders in Southampton , France, Belgium etc but our most consistent defender plays in nationwide division and since the time of Rohr , the likes of Balogun, Omeruo, Ekong, Awaziem, Shehu  names have been appearing on all the lists of our coaches. Won’t be surprised when they still call them for next match and patch them up with home based defenders .
Go and watch all our failed matches, it’s either error comes from goalkeeper or Defenders (CAR on mind) . With our oyinbo walls
That one is Clubless and the other is a bench warmer.

  • We still need to look inward the talents are here, male and female. At the moment we seem to be low on quality defenders, particularly in the centre half. If the West Bromwich’s manager remarks and ratings about Semi Ajayi are anything to go by, then the big central defender needs to show it in the national team. Other options would-be Chidozie Awaziem and probably South African based Olisa Ndah.

It’s really interesting how we got to this level of dearth of active defenders and Gk..
Okoye is not considered good enough for EFL..
Balogun is clueless, Captain Ekong has not played full 90mins for his club in over a year and still warming the bench in second division (EFL)..
Hopefully, these folks experience a change in fortune, otherwise, Pesseiro and his team should start revamping the team with active and formidable players.. Solve the issues with Akpo and integrate new players.
Give more responsibilities to reliable players with leadership traits like Ndidi and Ajayi.
It’s time for Ndidi to lead the team.

All these jingoistic comments about clubless Nigerian defenders and bench warming goalkeepers are just spreading useless fears. Your tribalism and nepotism is clear for all to see. Is Balogun our only defender or is Okoye the only goalkeeper. Hypocrite people everywhere.

The CB of the super eagles for today lacks capable hands. almost all the trusted ace there are playing in division2 or ain’t really active for now.

This calls for the super eagles coach to go comb Europe and get capable hands in Caleb Okoli(Atalanta), Jordan Torunarigha (Gent), Felix uduokhai(Augsburg). PESEIRO can also gets more back up for our full-backs in the name Felix Agu (werder Bremen), Bright Osayi-samuel (fernabahce).

If he can be convinced to switch his allegiance to Nigeria, Memeh Caleb Okoli of Atalanta is a very fantastic center-Back. He was on loan to UD Cremonese and helped them get a promotion to Seria A after many seasons of asking such question. He is now back to his original club, Atalanta where he has featured in almost all their pre-season matches. Due to his exploit with Cremonese last season, he is obviously, in the plan of Gasperini the coach of Atalanta going into this new season.

PESEIRO can also trust in Olisa Ndah of Orlando pirate. He is a fantastic defender along with Kevin Akpoguma of hoffeinham. As for the likes of troost ekong, balogun and Omuruo, they are not progressing rather, retrogressing deep deep downtrodden.

PESEIRO really needs to put his thinking cap and map out a strategy on how to reshape the super eagles central defence if he really knows what he wants. He can extend an invitation to Michael OLogo of instabulspor in Turkish super league. He has been reportedly courted by Porto as a replacement for aging Pepe. Not forgotten igho OGBUH of lillestrom of Norway.

Nice one @ABDUL…also since PASERIRO is Portuguese, he may also want to sound out SPORTING LISBON’s CB; TIAGO ALMEIDA ILORI who is now on loan to PACOS FEREIRA in the Portuguese Super Liga. He’s eligible for PORTUGAL, ENGLAND and Nigeria
