Man Utd are the most successful club in the EPL era

The Red Devils are the most successful club in the Premier League era. With the new format running since 1992, the Red side of Manchester has brought the domestic trophy home 13 times. Every single one of them has their legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, at the wheel.

Sir Alex is also the longest-serving manager in the history of the competition so far, managing a unique club for 27 years.

In absolute numbers, Man United have won about 46% of the Premier League seasons so far. Besides them, only Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City, and most recently Liverpool have managed to win the toughest league in the world.

Only three clubs have successfully defended the Premier League title

Despite only seven clubs winning the Premier League thus far, only three of them have managed to defend a Premier League title: Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

The Red Devils have done it twice, while Chelsea and Man City once each.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool could complete the top four on this list, although the Reds are going through a very hard and unfortunate time regarding injuries right now.

Lucky Christmas

It’s Christmas and your club is sitting at the top of the Premier League? So you might have reasons to celebrate it!

Since the 2011-12 season, seven clubs who were leading the league at Christmas ended up lifting the trophy. The two exceptions were 2013-14 and 2018-19 Liverpool. However, the Reds ended this curse last season, winning the Premier League after spending Christmas at the top of the table.

Under the current circumstances, though, chances are that we won’t see it happening again this season, as we will have more games after Christmas than usual due to the pandemic.

However, spending Christmas leading the league has been a synonym for happiness by May, which is when the league ends.

“The Invincibles”

Fancy a Golden EPL trophy? Seems unreal, doesn’t it? However, one club has managed to bag a golden Premier League trophy. In the 2003-04 season, Arsenal spent the whole tournament, thus, 38 Premier League fixtures unbeaten. As a reward for their splendid achievement, the North London club were given a Golden PL trophy to mark and symbolise their unique season.

Some try to downplay the Gunners’ impressive feature, saying that they drew about 30% of their matches back then.

It is spot on. However, the fact is that no one has ever managed to go an entire season unbeaten, and for that, 2003-04 Arsenal are known as “The Invincibles.” The manager back then was Frenchman Arsene Wenger.

The duo Arsenal-Arsene made history in the Premier League, with the French manager winning 3 Premier League trophies as the Gunners’ boss. His success was such that young fans used to think that Arsenal was named after Arsene.

Despite the Golden trophy, the Gunners don’t hold the PL record for the most points conquered in a 38-match season. This record belongs to 2017-18 Manchester City, when the Cityzens conquered 100 points. Throughout the Invincibles’ season, Arsenal made 90 points.

Until the current season, Liverpool were the closest one to threaten Arsenal’s record, as the Reds went 30 games unbeaten, but saw relegated side Watford end their dreams.

Do you think we will have another historic season coming in this 2020-21? At this stage, no team can go unbeaten anymore. Liverpool could become the fourth team in history to defend the title, though.

Also, we still have to see who will spend the merriest Christmas, don’t we? Let us know if you think the Christmas superstition is a real thing or only a coincidence!
