White Rose Bring In New Zealand Ace

Yorkshire have completed the signing of New Zealand international Ajaz Patel for the closing stages of the County Championship season. Patel has agreed to move to the Headingley-based outfit in the place of Keshav Maharaj, who will play his last game for the county at Taunton against leaders Somerset later this month.

Maharaj has claimed 28 wickets in four red-ball appearances for Yorkshire, while he has contributed 235 runs, and director of cricket Martyn Moxon feels Patel is the right man to fill his shoes.

Moxon told Yorkshire’s official website: “We feel he’s well qualified to come in and be available for the last two games for us, when hopefully we can continue our push to finish as high as possible in the county championship. “We looked at the options to fill Kesh’s shoes and we think Ajaz is the best to do that.” Patel will be available for Yorkshire’s final two matches with Kent at Headingley on September 16 before the season finale against Warwickshire.
