Why Eagles Are Favourites To Win AFCON 2021 Trophy –Rohr

Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has tipped Nigeria to emerged champions of the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Rohr, who was Nigeria manager for five years before he was sacked a month to the tournament, told Ouest France in an interview that Nigeria showed their quality in the group stage and have the most complete squad in the competition.

”Nigeria did not surprise me, “Rohr told Ouest France.

“It is for me the favourite after the group stage. This is the team with the most legs, the most efficient.

They know each other very well. It makes me happy to see them fulfill the contract even if you have to be wary of direct elimination matches, it’s completely different.”

“The team must be careful not to take the easy way out. I think they can handle the pressure. It’s still a young team but it has maturity. Some have made the World Cup in Russia.”

  • I watched the CIV-Algeria game and can see the Ivorians are a deadly group. In terms of player club profile, I think they’re the most complete team – top guns in AC Milan, Napoli, Ajax, Arsenal etc. Their front line is a dream set

Next is Nigeria. Senegal looks like a shadow of itself, disjointed. Just a single goal – a penalty even.

For me, only CIV and Cameroun are the serious threats – and we will beat them if we bring on our A game. We can’t draw or lose to any other team in Cameroun, except we become complacent or have a bad day in the office.

    • Ololo 2 years ago

We won’t play CIV, Cameroon, marocvo till the final if we manage to get to the final.. So we stand a good Chance if we play our game

    • The beauty about it is that we can only meet one of Cameroon and Ivory Coast in the final. Our flight avoids their route earlier than that.

Our greatest challenge between the second round and the final is now Tunisia. If we dispense with them tomorrow, then the other teams that we potentially need to navigate are Burkina Faso, Gabon, Cape Verde, Senegal, Mali and Equatorial Guinea : all of which are bread and butter teams (with all due respect).

So for me, if we defeat Tunisia tomorrow, without being arrogant, I will take it that we are already through to the final to most likely face Cameroon.

And what a final that would be!

      • Never judge a book by it cover…unexpected team will face Nigeria in Final . Is not Cameroun but unexpected country like Gabon or so.

Guys, make una take chill pills. Scale the #hurdle called #Tunisia first before talking about Cameroon/Cote D’Ivoire.

Did u watch mail play? They will catch people by surprise

    • A team people are ignoring is Senegal if they kick into Gear they are more dangerous than Cameroun.

Senegal is behaving like nIgeria 2013

“This is the team with the most legs, the most efficient”

That’s the impact of Eguavon with better tacticts unlike you that turned Moses into a defender. I think you need to apologise to that young man for insults he recived from fans cause ur cut and join tactics caused it

Secondly come and carry your slaves from here in Nigeria to go support you in Seychelles national team

We need to filter them out of this country

    • William d conqueror 2 years ago

Mr Man you and your rohr should shut it. If he was the handling the team now he will never say they are mature, he will keep on demoralizing them with my team is a young team. We can all see, truly this man is a mechanic that came to fleece Nigeria with his accomplice amaju picnic. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

The icy on the cake was to have kept Rohr late on the job till our own Eguavoen was ready to transform the S.E into a winning team. Enjoy your time Rohr.

    • So you people kept him there with una advise to the NFF till 2 weeks to Afcon??? Are you serious?

      • Omon Michael 2 years ago

Exactly what happened. The most important thing now is that our own indigenous coachie is doing beautifully well. Do you have any prediction for tomorrow’s match?

      • BABALOLA Yusuf Alani 2 years ago

Eguavone was designed to fail by Amaju “Picnic” who is doing picnic wit Nigerian Football. Watch out!

Rohr shattap…when competition never start you said and I qoute “let’s not pretend nigeria is better than Egypt, senegal etc. You didnt give us a chance suddenly you wan begin run mouth. If we win the competition you go say na your team..getat away.

Don’t mind this white pretender. he will claim the players won the Cup because of him. If so, why was he fired? He may be nursing the idea of getting the Ghana’s job now that Ghana has fired their coach. Thinking he can now rob it on our face. That is why Rohr is making all these noises from his home in France.

  • True SE is the most complete team in The Afcon…… SE plays a compact and matured game different from every other team in the Afcon……SE wingers Simon and Samuel are the fastest in the tournament…….SE defense is the most stingy in the Afcon……. Only SE can make SE lose this Afcon.

oga Rohr thanks for your good work because about 90% of players we are using now is being assembled by you
but you make us fear sometimes
    for examples

Sierre Leone match we are ahead and playing 4-0 against them but suddenly we surrender the 4-0 and it became 4-4

Against central african republic in Lagos we are beaten 1- 0 in our own backyard VERY ANNOYING

against cape verde in Nigeria it was 1-1 and the match was very fearful and full of tension for 90 mins because if cape Verde score one more goal Naija is out of world cup

i think is because of all these things that make NFF sack you …thnking that you have expired

    • TALK UR OWN 2 years ago

BUT WHEN YOU ARE IN CHARGE, YOU NEVER GIVE YOUR PLAYERS CONFIDENCE/MOTIVATIONAL WORDS THAT THEY CAN DEFEAT THEIR OPPONENT. THAT IS THE TIME YOU WILL REMEMBER THAT BENIN REPUBLIC HAS NOT LOSE AT HOME FOR PAST EIGHT YEARS. THAT YOUR TEAM ARE STILL YOUNG & INEXPERIENCE. AS A COACH WITH ALL THIS STATEMENT, YOU ARE ALREADY DEMORALIZE THE TEAM SPIRIT AND DESTROY PLAYERS CONFIDENT. AND THIS IS ONE OF REASONS WHY YOU LOSE YOUR JOB.

The truth be said,”Rohr just failed to understand the chemistry of the Super Eagles”. We were wingless during the reign of Rohr. But that is history now. S.Eagles can beat any team now by God’s grace.Super Eagles are flying now.”I bleed green”

  • Football is all about ups and downs so also the coaching job. Recently Brighton coach said something “Because thing are going well doesn’t mean we are the best or things are going bad doesn’t mean we are the worst” The poor man did his best and one can boldly say that the effect of that work we are reaping today but nothing last forever.

    • Bomboy 2 years ago

@Tayo, I think you are beginning to understand our position.

Those of us that supported his sack didn’t say he is a bad coach. He started very well, but things began to slide in the later stages.

Coach Rohr helped our football to come out of the temporal abyss we found ourselves, but later we began to gently slide back into the same abyss. He had to go so that another coach would take us to the next level.

Eguvoen, in my opinion, is not a genius. But he is doing well at the moment because he must have realised found the missing ingredients to add to the mix Coach Rohr had started. He simply found out what Coach Rohr was missing and injected it into the team.

We have no “bad belle” against Rohr. It was time for him to go. If we had kept him, things would have gotten worse. All the best wishes to him in his next endeavours.

      Up Super Eagles!

    • @tayo most coaches who experience the ups and downs of football are coaches that refused to evolve…..Alex Ferguson for instance reigned for 25years with no visible downs in his reign because he was willing to change things regularly,he was willing to bring in new ideas regularly,he was willing to bring in new young talented players in regularly,he was not rigid,he didn’t stick to the old ways,he didn’t stick much to his veterans except such veteran prove himself to be able to compete at the highest level example Giggs,……. Guadiola is another coach that will reign for long because he evolves from time to time,he goes for the latest talents available,he doesn’t stick to veterans unnecessarily,he brings in new ideas regularly…….My brother that is the secret of remaining at the top for long in any endeavors you are into……. You don’t expect to remain on top with the same ideas that took you there……Other competitors will find you out and dethrone you…….This was exactly what Rhor lacked…….He was too rigid and dogmatic to stay top……he was unwilling to try new ideas…….he relied so much on the players that made him example v.Moses Mikel onazi Ighalo etc and when they left the scene he couldn’t adapt quickly…….Later small African teams started finding us out and we all saw what happened……. Please leave Rhor let him learn from this and become a better person.

Rohr you did a great job, thank you very much. Let’s see where we go from here.

I can’t forget coach Rohr in a hurry, and never will I. His mark on Nigerian football is well scripted. If super eagles go on to win this tournament, they are still fulfilling the purpose Rohr laid down by assembling a formidable team for Equavon to use effectively. I can’t blame Rohr because of his age, at old age men begins to think a little bit downward and that went on to affects his tactics later on, and several other things unknown to fans.

Rohr brought us out of a serious pit and mess, SE was a laughing commodity in the market of football but Rohr restored our pride for a pretty long time of his tenure. I can’t forget the friendly matches against Argentina, Brazil, Ukraine, Serbia, England. I can’t forget him qualifying us from the group of death during one of his qualification campaign either for his first Afcon or world cup. He qualified us for the next WC playoff and this current gold getting AFCON.

I can only remember your goods as I personally want to keep the bads off this article, because the NFF never treated you and your team well by owing you months of salaries and your team months of wages. Forcing you to play in a cassava plantation field or crusade ground call Taslim Balogun Stadium.

Thanks for still supporting your boys, if we carry this cup I will be please if you are invited for the celebrations. I miss you coach Rohr.

    Up super eagles!!!!
    Up Equavon!!!!
More smiles to the fans on CSN!!!!!

You lost it big time Oga Rohr. Your statement on match day between Nigeria vs Egypt, you said Nigeria do not have players in big clubs bla bla bla. You thought Egypt would beat us that day but fortunately, Nigeria won the match. Since then you have lost the respect I gave to you Oga Rohr.

No matter what you say after that day, I won’t take you serious.

As you inherited coach Sunday Oliseh team so as coach Eguavoen inherited your team. What goes around comes around. You had the tools but you didn’t know how to use the tools and you got sacked Shikena.

For you Oga Rohr followers, it is very unfortunate at this stage you people are still backing the coach. Did I not say this that the former coach would continue having fantastic players in his team but to make the best of the team, he doesn’t have it. So what are people complaining about?

He lost the ideas. He had to call Ighalo and Akpeyi back. Was he progressing or regressing? If wasn’t because of Amaju Pinnick the former politician, the gaffer would gone long time ago.

Fellow Patriotic Nigerians, don’t be discouraged and distracted by Oga Rohr and his fans. We have to be more focused on the tasks ahead. We haven’t get there yet but with prayers and hard work, God is in control. God bless Nigeria!!!
