Former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge has expressed unwavering belief in the England national team’s potential, stating that their time will come to win a major international trophy following their heartbreaking elimination.
Recall that the Three Lions lost 2-1 to Argentina in Wednesday’s semi-final game of the FIFA World Cup 2026, thanks to a late minutes comeback from the South American team.

Despite falling short of the ultimate prize, Sturridge offered words of encouragement, praising the squad for making the country believe again.
Acknowledging the frustration of falling just short in a major tournament, Sturridge emphasized that this young and talented group has a bright future ahead, insisting that their “time will come”.
“Since 2018, this is statistically the greatest generation we’ve produced since 1966. Two finals, two semi-finals and one quarterfinal across five major tournaments,” Sturridge wrote via his X handle.
“No trophy yet, but they’ve made us believe again. I’m proud of them, and their time will come.”

England reached the semis in the 2018 World Cup, for the first time since 1990, and former boss Gareth Southgate then led his team to the finals of UEFA Euro 2020 and 24.
England will now take on France in the controversial third-place playoff on Saturday July 18 followed by the start of their Nations League campaign in September up against Spain and Czechia.
