Caleb Yirenkyi scored the decisive goal as Ghana recorded a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama at Toronto Stadium.
Panama threatened early in the contest, but goalkeeper Benjamin Asare came to Ghana’s rescue with an impressive diving save to keep out Cecilio Waterman’s effort.
Panama continued to press and carved out another clear opportunity after Benjamin Asare’s poor punch dropped kindly to Jiovany Ramos. However, despite having plenty of time and space, the defender fired his effort over the crossbar.
Panama squandered another opportunity early in the second half when Cristian Martínez latched onto a loose ball inside the penalty area but could only fire into the side netting.

Ghana nearly took the lead around the hour mark.
Substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante darted down the right and slid the ball across goal for Jordan Ayew, but Jiovany Ramos got back to produce a goal-saving challenge.
The game appeared to be heading for a draw until Yirenkyi struck deep into stoppage time to hand Ghana a dramatic victory.
Substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante was set free down the left and drove into the area, before squaring for Yirenkyi to tap home his first international goal.
Ghana sit in second position in Group L, and will face England in their next game at the Boston Stadium next week Tuesday.
