Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum says his team’s main goal at the 2022 WAFCON in Morocco is to qualify for next year’s women’s World Cup.
The Falcons are gunning for a record-extending 10th African title when hostilities kickoff in July.
Waldrum and his team will slug it out with South Africa, Botswana and Burundi in Group C and qualification into the semi-final will guarantee a World Cup ticket.
And the American has stated that despite a target of landing a 10th continental title, the main priority is the World Cup ticket.

“What comes to mind is thinking ahead of the importance to qualify,” Waldrum said on Brila.
“The World Cup qualification has always been the goal, as much as we want to win AFCON Championship, the most important thing right now is qualifying.
“And in the other thing that a coach always concern with is preparation and getting things done the right way. I think we’ve prepared well and overall I’m pleased with the past year and the preparation that we’ve had.“
The Falcons will kickoff the tournament against South Africa on July 4th in Rabat.
At the 2018 WAFCON final in Ghana the Falcons triumphed on penalties.

You should rather ask Eguavoen that question because he was the one in charge of those two painful games.
Other coaches have proven there mettle,Rohr and Peseiro.And I believe had they being in charge both games should have won convincingly.
Lool… Nigerians compromised SE’s qualification. Pinnick, minister and the greedy 1994 set were already counting their eggs. They were seeing dollar bills, making plans on how to cash out without even qualifying first. They sacked Rohr bcos they thought the job was done and dusted! We saw it coming even before the nations cup. It’s a shame.
By January – in just over 6 months time – Qatar world cup qualification failure will be firmly behind Super Eagles fans.
Happily, by that time, the euphoria shrouding the 2023 Afcon would be in full swing.
Eguavoen did not have time to perfect his strategy. He did his best against Tunisia but his wafer thin midfield became irredeemably untenable after Iwobi’s reckless red card following Okoye’s howler.
Uzoho’s howler and questionable choices by Osimhen further exacerbated Eguavoen’s lack of tactical imagination against Ghana in Abuja.
Eguavoen is gone and soon, the Qatar world cup will also be firmly behind us in January 2023. We now have Peseiro who incidentally sets up with a 4-4-2 similar to Eguavoen but with 2 parallel rather straight-lined midfielders. Unlike Eguavoen, Peseiro (like Gernot Rohr and Randy Waldrum) has the gumption to elect for the more caution and defensive minded 5-3-2 formation in more delicate matches when the chips are down.
With 3 centre defenders (Ekong, Balogun, Ajayi), 2 wingbacks (Aina, Simon), 2 defensive midfielders (Onyeka, Etebo) , 1 attacking midfielder (Aribo) and 2 strikers (Ighalo and Osimhen), I struggle to see how Ghana would have upended the Super Eagles with solid tried-and-tested set up across 2 legs.
That is why it is always good to have a viable plan “B”. We now have Jose Peseiro who has different and creative approaches based on the opposition, let’s just see how things pan out once the distraction of the Qatar world cup is over.
