Xavi Expresses Worry Over Barcelona’s Inconsistency

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has said that his players need to be more consistent and make much bigger demands of themselves.

The LaLiga champions have won three of their last five games, losing one and draw one.

After suffering a 2-1 home defeat to rivals Real Madrid, Barcelona managed to see off Sociedad.

They will hope to record back-to-back wins when they face Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.

Looking forward to the Champions League clash with the Ukrainian giants, Xavi said qualifying for the round of 15 is priority.

“Qualification is the primary objective, and after that topping the group, and we have both within our reach already. We need to start controlling games more. We have recuperating important players like Pedri, Raphina, Lewandowski and Kounde. They are vital players for the team.

“But we still need to impose our identify more, that’s the key. We want to play excellent football and to win games by a wide margin. But that’s the ideal scenario and it’s not going to happen in every game. There is also the opponent to take into account and some days you aren’t as inspired as others. We need to get back our consistency and make much bigger demands of ourselves in that respect.

“I think we’ve done a very good job. Not just me but all the staff, the club, the players.. we are halfway towards making Barca great again. We need to get back that sheer excellence we once used to have.”

On the domestic front, Barcelona are third in the Laliga standings after picking up 27 points from 12 games.
