Yobo Hails ‘Imperious’ Omeruo, Eagles On Victory Against Guinea

Former Nigeria captain Joseph Yobo has sung the praise of Kenneth Omeruo who bagged the Super Eagles’ goal in a 1-0 victory against Guinea on Wednesday, Completesports.com reports.

A lovely header from Omeruo in the 73rd minute was enough to help Nigeria secure a 1-0 win over their West African neighbours at the Alexandria Stadium.

It was the defender’s first goal ever for the Nigerian national team after 46 caps and it confirmed the Eagles’passage to the round of 16 of the Total Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Yobo who played alongside Omeruo when Nigeria won her third AFCON title in South Africa back in 2013 heaped plaudits on the Chelsea centre-back while on punditry duties for SuperSport.

Joseph Yobo

The retired Nigeria international said: “Great position to be in, I think it has been a long time ago that Nigeria got to this position of picking up wins from its opening two games at the Africa Cup of Nations.

“And not only are they winning but they have so far kept two clean-sheets and I feel that will help them build very well going forward in the competition.

“I like the way they played against Guinea. In the first half, the game was evenly balanced but in the second period, they showed a bit more of their character by pressing the Guineans.

“It was a well-taken goal by Kenneth Omeruo and as far as I know, the Chelsea star who was on loan at Leganes last season was imperious all through 90 minutes against Guinea.

“I am happy for Omeruo because he played along with me. I am happy that he is fulfilling his potential because he is a good defender.” .

Yobo added: “I am also happy that other defenders such as Leon Balogun and other players are performing as well. The Super Eagles team is presently doing well now and they need the support of all Nigerians to do well at the AFCON 2019.”

I won’t be surprised if any of them comes here to say he/she knows football more than Yobo.

we all want Nigeria to win this tournament but we should be honest to ourselves while in analyzing our performances and the team tactical ability, @Dr Drey please can u tell us why our attackers find it difficult to score goals despite rohr took more attackers than midfielders to the tournament? I thought is his responsibility to organize the team such a way there should be well coordination between midfield and the attack? Individual players(talent) in this tournament Nigeria re far better than all the teams but were did we get it wrong? dont forget we just came back from world cup?

    • Dr. Drey 5 years ago

Can you also tell us why our defense is yet to concede despite having a basket goal keeper in goal…?

Dr drey, you have reply well.God bless Nigeria.
Disgrace the enemies of progress Nigeria

….and who is deceiving you that we have better players that ALL other teams in this tournament…? Are you living in 1994 or 2019..?
Are our players playing in better clubsides than other teams…? Or on what basis are you saying we have better players than all other teams in the tournament.
Mr better wake up and stop being blinded by sentiments. The last time a Nigeria won AFOTY was 19 years ago. The last time any Nigerian national team regular made the caf team of the year was 5 or 6 years ago (if im not mistaken). Theres no SE player currently playing in any of the top 4 teams in the top 5 leagues in Europe. If there’s any someone should pls remind me.
Stop deceiving yourself once again. Even the Guineans we played yesterday had players in better clubs than ours.

  • so sad to see nigeria face exit door at quarterfinal stage as rohr intended… egypt ,senegal, morocco, cameroun must beat us because Gernot Rohr is in charge… Gernot Rohr has already “sworn with an oath that he will not go past semi final”…. even wen as i see akpeyi na hin i knw say de mean somthin else…. rohr is so adamant and clueless

@ Drey , I have always read your comments and i do not see reason why you do not see any good thing in this players if you must consider the situation they are playing in Cairo very hot weather and very strong opposition still they have not conceded any goal and qualified without playing the last match what else do you need them to prove to you that they are good and we have a good team. do not be surprised that so called SENEGAL will not win this cup, imagine Ghana can not win Benin,Egypt struggled all through even yesterday against DRC so who do you think is classical than us be wise.

If you are better go and play and stop this your hate speech

I’m surprised at how we get to understand what is written. Abba Rossi made a statement of Nigeria having the best players in this tournament, which Dr Dre refuted because he was trying to put into perspective, the giant stride the players and the coaches have made despite not having the best legs in the continent (even though they are not bad either). His comment was complimentary and at the same time trying to make sure Abba Rossi appreciates the efforts the team has put in especially the coach. Abeg make Una dey read to understand.

2DREY let me take you on..GUINEA NABBY KEITA is the only top player they have and the rest nantes and third division n second division players in France,Senegal only MANE,COULIBALY r the top players they have and not fantastic i tell you, Egypt on SALAh the rest in home league what r u saying.

You just hate success what of if we were losing now what will you have said so better appreciate what you have.Nomatter the league our players are player in first division teams worldwide i dont mind, except collins and etebo n any day any time etebo can contest with KEITA without fear and show him class ball na brain no be name…

Bros read to understand. Na only you waka come. He was complimenting the SE players I don’t know where you are getting your own interpretation.

    • Adisboy 5 years ago

Chinedu my bros, please research before you post. Guinea have players in this tournament playing for Napoli, Toulouse, Eintract Frankfurt, Borussia Moenchangladbach, Auxerre, Kasimpasa, Bordeaux, Olympiakos, Zulte etc. You realised i left out the obvious i.e
Liverpool. These teams are in the top divisions of Italy, Germany, France, Turkey, Greece & Belgium. So you failed with that point. That we made those players looking ordinary, kudos to our boys.

You guys are misquoting Drey,he was responding to @abba rossi’s comment. I’ve read a lot of his comment (Drey) though I don’t usually comment. Drey is a committed fan of the SE and he has never said anything negative about the team except if he’s pulling legs so that people like OMO9JA can talk. God bless Nigeria!

  • Is it the same comment that @Drey made that people are responding to? I’m surprised because he is actually defending SE. Pls guy read the comment @ABBA Rossi’s comment first and then read @Drey’s response for a clearer perspective
