‘You Need To Be More Aggressive’ — Leverkusen Boss Demands More From Boniface

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has tasked Victor Boniface to be more aggressive in front of goal.

Boniface scored the winning goal for the Bundesliga champions in the 1-0 victory over AC Milan on Tuesday.

It was the forward’s maiden goal in the prestigious competition.

The Nigeria international has so far scored four goals across all competitions for Die Werkself this season.

Despite his impressive goal record, Alonso challenged the player to be more aggressive like former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba.

“He (Boniface) has many qualities that can make him as strong as Drogba. Drogba was strong and create problems for defenders, ” Alonso told Oma Sports.

“He needs to create his own qualites. He is good with the ball in short spaces, he likes to be around the box.

“Sometimes he needs to be around the box. Sometimes he needs to be more aggressive to attack the box like today that he scored a goal that was disallowed.

“But it is a process, we need to help him. We push him and sometimes to take better decisions when the space is outside.”
