Youngsters To Get A Chance For South Africa

South African coach Ottis Gibson says the Proteas will use their current injury problems as an opportunity to try out the younger players. After a comprehensive Test whitewash of Pakistan, the Proteas now face the same opposition in an ODI series but injuries to Lungi Ngidi (knee), JP Duminy (shoulder) and Wiaan Mulder (ankle) have thrown their preparations into confusion.
Gibson says they will field some youngsters in their absence and the door is open for them to play their way into the World Cup contention ahead of this summer’s tournament in England. “I was hoping to play – if everyone had been fit – the team that is as close to the group of guys who will go to the World Cup,” said Gibson. “But that opportunity isn’t here at the minute and hopefully that will happen when Sri Lanka get here.”
South Africa face Pakistan in a five-match ODI series, starting in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
