Zapata Eyes Silverware With Atalanta

Duvan Zapata has reiterated his commitment to Atalanta and he is hoping to win some silverware with the club in the near future. The Colombia international was an instrumental figure as La Dea secured a third-place finish in Serie A this season and with it a place in the Champions League for the first time in their history.

Indeed, only Sampdoria’s Fabio Quagliarella scored more than Zapata’s total of 23 goals in the Italian top-flight during the 2018-19 campaign, while the 28-year-old also played a key role in Atalanta’s run through to the Coppa Italia final, although they were ultimately beaten in that competition by Lazio.

Zapata’s form for Atalanta has seen him linked with the likes of Inter Milan and one of his former club’s Napoli, but the forward, who is halfway through a two-year loan at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia from Sampdoria, insists he wants to remain with Gian Piero Gasperini’s side and win some silverware.

“I am dreaming of lifting a trophy with Atalanta,” Zapata told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “I’m thinking about La Dea and I want to stay here. I’m very happy and we achieved an historic target with Champions League qualification. After such hard work, we can enjoy that happiness.”
