Zinchenko Out Of Brentford Vs Arsenal Clash With Calf Injury

Ukrainian left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko is set to miss Arsenal’s trip to Brentford in Sunday’s Premier League tie due to a calf muscle injury which will see him be out for two weeks.

This was revealed by the Ukrainian Football Association.

Zinchenko, who completed a £30million summer transfer from Premier League champions Manchester City to Arsenal has been a regular for head coach Mikel Arteta.

But his fine early-season form has now been disrupted just one game before the upcoming international break.

Kieran Tierney is now expected to keep his place in the starting XI following the 2-1 win over FC Zurich in the Europa League last week.

The Ukrainian FA confirmed that Zinchenko has informed them that he will no longer be joining up with the national team squad for Nations League matches against Scotland (twice) and Armenia next week.

A statement read: “The Arsenal player suffered a calf muscle injury during training at the club, which will require about two weeks for treatment and recovery. Oleksandr immediately personally informed the head coach of the Ukrainian national team, Oleksandr Petrakov, of the unfortunate news by calling him. We wish Sashka a speedy recovery.”

The 25-year-old has already missed the 2-1 victories over Fulham and Aston Villa in late August with a knee problem before returning to the fold for the 3-1 defeat at Manchester United in early September.

Arsenal were due to host Everton last weekend before the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, which saw all Premier League fixtures postponed.

Zinchenko will now stay in London to work with Arsenal’s medical team during the international break as he targets a return for the north London derby with Tottenham on October 1.

Meanwhile, Thomas Partey is expected to return to action for Arsenal when they visit the Bees after participating in full team training this week.

The Ghana international has been missing for four matches after picking up a thigh problem in August.
