AMA Smile FC have sneaked into the group stage of the 1xCup 2026 following a 4-3 penalty shootout win against Brighton FA at the Inspire Sports Ground, Cappa, Oshodi, Lagos on Friday.
Although, the round of 50 match between both teams representing the Ikorodu zone failed to live up to expectations, AMA Smile goalkeeper, Gabriel Ajao emerged as the hero during the penalty shootout.
With the game ending in a 0-0 scoreline after regulation time, Ajao came up with his magic wand by saving two penalties to help his side come out 4-3 winners.
Brighton FA goalkeeper also saved a penalty but his players let him down after failing to convert two spotkicks, with the team thereby bowing out of the 1xCup 2026.
