2019 ICAN President’s Golf Tournament: Female Player Kachi Emerges Overall Winner

The 2019 ICAN President’s Golf Tournament was rounded off at Arsenal Golf and Country Club, Obinze, near Owerri, Imo State with a female player Kachi Patience emerging the overall winner of the competition, Completesports.com
reports.

Kachi came tops in the ICAN Ladies category with 74 nets, beating her only female opponent Ify Nwachukwu, who came second with 111 nets.

In the men’s category, Doyin Owolabi made 78 nets to emerge winner while Abbey and Mankinde emerged second with 78 net and third with 80 net respectively.

Bolu Gbadegosin lost out on count-back in the Guest Men category with 75-5-70 net while E. Onumajuru and Titus Promise won on count back with 70 net and 68 net winner new hand card 8:2= 8.

Presenting the award to the winners at the event, the ICAN President, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuadigbo expressed his joy over the outcome of the tournament which according to him was organized to honour of ICAN members.

He urged Nigerians to take to the game of golf, adding that golf remains the best game that keeps one and his mental alertness fit all the time

Captain of the Club, Mr Clifford Orjiako, stated that the essence of the tournament was to promote tourism in the state which the club stands out with their standard facilities.

He noted that the five-day event brought together players from across the country who enjoyed the hospitality of the state.

He commended the organisers for working hard to ensure its success.

In her speech, the overall winner of the 2019 ICAN President’s Golf Tournament kachi Patience expressed her joy for emerging winner while thanking her husband for not only bringing her into the sport, but for his encouragement to her to play the game of golf.

“Initially, I refused to take to the game after I was registered into the IBB Golf Club by my husband who is a police officer,” she said.

“I prayed that my husband should quit the game but I got more interested in the game immediately I started playing the game.”

Kachi recalled that she started playing golf in 1998, in her first tournament in 2015 she won the First Ladies championship.

She said that the experience she gained in golf has taken her across many countries of the world including Dubai (United Arab Emirates) and Mauritania representing Nigeria.
