2022 U-17 WWC: Flamingos Can Beat Any Team — Usani

Flamingos defender, Miracle Usani is confident the team will beat Colombia in their semi-final encounter at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The Nigerian girls will face the South Americans in the semi-final encounter at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa on Wednesday.

The encounter will start at 4pm (12noon Nigeria time).

“I believe we can get to the final,” Usani said in an interview with FIFA.

“If we can beat USA, I don’t see any obstacle standing in our way.”

USA enjoyed the better stats against Nigeria, but Usani said her team were focused on winning to go through to a historic semi-final after three failed attempts previously.

“It was just about winning the game,” she said. “That’s exactly what we had to do, and that was the key to our victory.”

The Flamingos defeated United States of America 4-3 on penalties to get to this stage of the competition.

Abeg stop all this pride ooo, It was God that was on our side that made the referee to be fair to us against the US.

My advice again to the coach s to play the same way they played the US by playing high press football ( don’t give the them space to play) mark them closely, they are not as strong as the US, BUT DON’T TAKE THEM FOR GRANTED, PLEASE BE DETERMINED TO WIN THIS GAME against he the Columbians. use your speed and go for the counter attacks.

secondly don’t forget again ask the players to shoot from outside the box 18, you would have won the game earlier against the Us, if our girls had been shooting from outside the 18 box.

I pray for Nigeria to win. Ameen

Was the referee not supposed to do her job? Abeg, stop having negative mindset as the girls need to be psych up. Girls, go there you can defeat anything with focus.

  • Whilst Usani’s statement in the article above might, at best, seem like the panting of a proud peacock and, at worst, a wigwam for a goose’s bridal, the truth remains that it is not without basis or merit.

To be honest, should the Flamingos avoid biting on the ampoules of complacency and maintain the highest level of concentration, very few observers will bet against them lifting the trophy.

Having narrowly lost to a superpower in Germany under controversial circumstances in the group stages, Usani and her teammates would withstand relentless onslaught from the mighty USA in the quarter final, stay the course and then batten down the hatches to win on penalties.

So, the Usani and her Super Flamingos teammates have earned the right to be moderately optimistic in their chances and reasonably confident in their abilities to achieve their aims and goals.

Bankole’s babes play a compact brand of football built on solid defence and a stinging attack with a hard working midfield. The put their bodies on the line to prevent goals and use their frightening pace in front to create channels of opportunities.

I find their brand of football crude, unattractive, unappetising and unappealing at times but who gives a damn? They are winning and winning compellingly which is what matters.

Their approach, which has brought success thus far, is expected to hold out against their remaining oppositions.

So I am 100% with Miracle Usani when she said: “If we can beat USA, I don’t see any obstacle standing in our way.”

To which I say, ‘why not!’
