Nigeria’s Flamingos will take on the United States of America in the quarter-finals of the U-17 women’s World Cup in India.
The pairing was confirmed after the USA thrashed Morocco 4-0 in their final Group A game to finish top on Monday.
It is the Americans’ second win of the World Cup after winning one and drawing one of their two opening group fixtures.
Earlier on Monday the Flamingos booked their place in the last eight following a hard fought 2-1 win against Chile in their last Group B tie.

Well. They have hopefully got the exposure. Safe to say they are coming home. If a team can’t convert their chances, no hope progressing further. Goals make games at this level. They have tried
Typical Nigerian fans, always negative.
I’ve watched the two teams play. And I have to say that the Yankee girls are damn good. Technically, they are quite ahead of us. It’s just too early to face them, tbh. One problem I’ve noticed with this Nigerian team is lack of cohesion. And their decision making in the box is poor. They always create the chances. But converting them is a problem. Reason they struggle against big teams. They can easily get away with it against New Zealand and Costa Rica, but against a team like USA, Brazil or Japan. They will make.us pay. It’s that simple. I’m hopeful though but I won’t bet on that match. Simple!!
I had to go watch the highlight of the US vs Morocco game and seeing the quality of goals the US are scoring with very accurate passes , I can only say that our girls must up their game to stand a chance.. we can’t waste chances against the US team , no we would be punished for it.. I still have Faith in our team.. we are equally talented and can get the result
But they won 2:1 against Chile which meant they had qualified for the Quarter finals and definitely not coming home as many Tribal haters had predicted’
Kudos to these wonderful Falconets, many who thought they were not the best Nigeria has to offer can now swallow their pride and support these beautiful lasses
USA 0 NIGERIA 2
Mark my words
You can call it anyway you want. It does not matter. When you meet the US girls, you are coming home, baby. Sorry for that.
Fortunately for us we are not morocco.Write this down our girls will surprise you Friday. The Americans will have no space to play their game because our girls are equally talented and skillful too.
Football is not Maths. America beat India will 8 goals while Brazil beat same India 5 goals. But Brazil struggled against morocco and eventually won by a goal. This same Brazil drew with America.I see our girls celebrating on Friday by God’ grace. You do not have to agree with me, time they say shall tell.
You are not God Edoman. This is 9ja team meaning, anything can happen. You can’t just write off our Flamingos like that.
Let’s wait and see. 9ja no dey carry last, that is for sure. Fingers crossed. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Let us be suggesting the way forward cos I believe these girls if properly directed they can surmount the challenge of USA.
As much i think US team is good they aren’t exceptional. Lets face facts, they’ve won india and morocco (both debutants) and they played a 1:1 draw with brazil if we compare the opponents the flamingoes have faced so far (Germany, New Zealand and chile), these are way better oppsitons than what d US have encountered so far. Same way we said the US u20 team was very technica and tactically superior and what evenually happened to them, they were knocked out in d group stage. The match against d US can go ether way, i personally see us winning the match, all we need to do is take our chances when they come. We should be resolute defensively while still attacking them with speed and our physicality. We should avoid making silly mistakes like fouling in d box or poor clerance. I don’t know why the coach replaced our #5 (i forget her name) she is really good with her left foot. She is excellent when delivering corner kicks, great going forward, good with the ball on her feet and also with long throws. I will suggest the coach revert to the formation he used against New Zealand where she had the #5 on d left and muracle usani on d left. The 2 CBs are good too. Edafe can be brought in the 2nd half to add some bite. I see us springing a good surprise against the americans.
Nice one brother.
These Flamingoes have absolutely nothing to fear. The keyword is BELIEF. They must not let the Americans keep coming at them and impose their style of play. What always worries most Nigerian teams is resorting to sending long aerial balls from the back upfront, snd hoping for luck..
You cannot give what you do not have. In a similar vain; we have gotten to the bus top where our talent cannot see us through. The problem has to do with our technical bench (at this stage far from impressive). the developmental programe of women football back in Nigeria (zero) and we have never fashioned a football philosophy to handle such teams based on our unique strenghts (I wonder what the technical department of NFF and National institute of sports is there for). if you observed when a country fashions a football philosophy, it takes the rest of the world by storm and the rest of the world does catch-up until they fashion how to counter it. so the Brazilians (had samba), the dutch ( total football), the Spainards (Tiki Taka) etc. where is our own. whatever that bench brings to the fore is known to this foreign opponents and our success so far has being hinged on raw talent and physical. it is good, but the problem with it is that, it may get us success like in Atlanta olympics once a while but it is not sustainable in the long run. So we should go back to the basics of being of why this countries are always consistent and top teams
The Flamingoes will win.
The US under 17 team will beat their under 20 counterparts hands down, their styles differ their under 17 team are more technical and aggressive on and off the ball but their under 20 girls were similar to super falcons at the wafcon always running like headless chickens no wonder they got booted out at the group stages as for your point i get it we have a good chance of winning the match unfortunately some Nigerians are already pessimistic about it.
