Flamingos captain Alvine Dah-Zossu believes the team will bounce back from Tuesday’s defeat against Germany at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Nigerian girls opened their campaign with a 2-1 defeat against Germany at the Pandit Jawaharlal Stadium, Goa.
The Flamingos took the lead from a free-kick on the half hour mark through Miracle Usani.

The Europeans however rallied back scoring through Svea Stold and Mara Alber.
“Sadly, we couldn’t win, we gave our all but it wasn’t good enough to earn us victory,”Dah-Zossu.
“It’s not easy to be on the losing side but we will pick ourselves up and bounce back against New Zealand.”
Bankole Olowookere’s side will face New Zealand in their next game on Friday.

You could easily win that game but your mindsets need to be focused on your game and nothing else.
One thing with all Nigeria national team’s is that they use mouth to Play bfor the game…..why not stay focus until after the game u can start blablabla…
This u-17 female team is just not it. Only a miracle will see them winning the Cup. If those players are the best Nigeria can produce at u-17 level, then, female football in surely on the decline in Nigeria.
You watched only 1 match in which they lost narrowly to a super power team in Germany and you simply conclude that the team is not it? But you never wrote off SF when they lost to SA in AFCON.
Am sure you believe the team is not best Nigeria has to offer simply because of a number of Yoruba names on the list……….so you believe that only the Igbos know how to play soccer in Nigeria???
Retrace your steps bro and accept that Nigeria belong to all that live in it and the National team should never be dominated by one tiny section of the country
@ Bank, I have always thought you are one of the few enlightened ones here, but this disappointing comment betrays that assumption. If you go back to majority of my comments on Nigeria footballers, a tribalist like you would have been thinking I am even a Yoruba, cos I have always being in the front line extolling the qualities of players like Leon Balogun, Ola Aina, Ademola lookman, Tom Dele Bashiru, even ex players like Segun odegbami, Muda Lawal, etc . Or are these not Yoruba by tribe? You know what? you can write Dr as big as can lift your ego, I am not into your small man’s mentality of considering tribe when it comes to football. I only just made a statement that if these u-17 are the best we can present then our female football is surely on a painful decline.
At least Miracle (Usani) scored their only goal against Germany. 🙂
So your statement may not be too far wide off the mark.
You can’t sow bad seed and expect good/successful harvest Nigerians.
Guys I’m appalled by some of d comments i read yesterday levied againt the team and coaching crew. concerning dis team. The bile rhetoric towards d team is really appalling considering dis girls are representing our country. These girls are our pride and we should be proud of dem as they aim to shine a bright light on a nation dat barely shows its citizens love and kindness. I personally havent represented 9ja in anything and i doubt most of the forunmites here have either. These same girls delivered the goods in africa. We are our own problem seriously, the soon we statt thinking of ourselves as nigerian 1st rather than ibos, yorubas, hausas etc the better as a nation we will be. Most of d people here 4get that Germany are the reigning European u17 champions beating spain in the finals coming back from a goal down if am not mistaking. Our girls need encouragement rather than condemnation. They did dia best all tins considered and held the germans at bay for a long period, dia undoing was just a couple naive decisions/mistakes which are very comment and frequently happens in dis age group. There was nothing too special about the german team except better organization, even with their well organized academies and other infrastructures in place (conducieve environment for football) one would be expecting that they would destroy our falconets with goals but alas dat didnt happen, they were even fortunate to have won by just 2:1, on a different day our girls might have won dat game. Kudos should be given to d girls and coaching crew for fighting to d every last, most forumites here won’t have bet prior to d match that our girls would have won dis game anyway, so y abuse the girls for trying. I personally think d girls tried considering so many factors. They will pick themselves up and defeat both New zealand and chile in dia subsequent matches and progress to d KO stages. Even if they don’t progress to d KO stages, we should keep in mind dat dis is a developmental competiton that’s meant to give exposure to dis young women, its not a win at all cost thing. If some of dis girls are able to graduate to the falconets and falcons, to me dats considered a success. Do these girls need to improve, yes absolutely, i am convinced they will improve in subsequent matches. This could even b a blessing in disguise, they now know dia backs are against the wall, hence complacency will be gone as oppose to if they had won against germany. Just my 2 cents abi 2 kobo lol.
You made some nice points but I don’t agree with people always tagging full fledged competitions as developmental, just because they are youth championships. You must earn graduation to more senior teams by showing very special football skills at this stage. This team appears lacklustre. I blame the coach fully. He gave a glimpse of hope by extending his dragnet to more players for the final camping and suddenly stuck to virtually all the players that qualified the team via an offside goal against Ethiopia! I know people will thumbs down this comment but I do not care. I will always say it the way I feel!
Seeing the list I knew that Nigeria is about to fail.Nonsense set of players with tribal sentiment
