2022 WCQ: Super Eagles Deserve To Qualify For Next Round – Liberia Coach, Butler

Liberia head coach Peter Butler says the Super Eagles of Nigeria deserve to be in the final phase of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, following their 2-0 win against his side.

The Lone Star hosted the Eagles in Tangier, Morocco, in the fifth round fixture in Group C on Saturday.

But goals in each half, both from the penalty spot, by Victor Osimhen and Ahmed Musa, secured the win.

The victory means the Eagles stay top on 12 points and need just a point against Cape Verde to progress into the play-off.

For Liberia they can no longer qualify after suffering a fourth defeat in the qualifiers.

And speaking in his post-match press conference, Butler praised the Eagles for their quality, stating they are good enough to advance.

“First of all I would like to congratulate Nigeria, they deserve to go through to the next phase because they have good players, well drilled, well coached.“

Butler also praised his players for giving a good account of themselves despite playing against an established team.

“Over 90 minutes I thought we gave a good account of ourselves, we played some good football. We are in a rebuilding process and this team will improve in time.

“We don’t have the finance of teams like Nigeria, Senegal etc and also we don’t have the players to compete with them.

“I’m proud of the effort of my players, what I ask for they gave me, couple of mistakes but it is what it is, I’m not going to make excuses.“

  • But some idiots here said the team wasn’t coached well because your team was not whitewash.

Tayo it’s high time you stop talking on this forum. Did you watch something different from over 90 percent Nigerians. Sometimes I expect you to be quiet but you come out with loose talk disgracing yourself.

  • Highstar 2 years ago

I notice Rohr has special likeness for Maduka okoye with the way he was holding the goalie by the waist after the match

  • Dennis it seems something is wrong with you. So you know more than the coach abi didn’t you read what he said? Which yeye over 90 percent that doesn’t use their brain?

  • Wowwww, those that said the team don’t have a coach come and hear oooo.
The truth is you guys hatred for rohr as a coach have ‘blinded your eyes’ that even though he wins the nation’s cup, some persons will still condemn him as they will either say it’s luck or individual brilliance.
Well, our people say who wear gold for neck not dey know say e dey shine.
Rohr will definitely leave one day let’s see how it goes.

    • Wetin the team play? Is it that you and this Tayo of a kid don’t watch proper football at weekends? You think say a proper team will make mistakes like Liberia commiting senseless penalty. Go watch Ethiopia vs Ghana you go see refined football or watch Algeria match, Germany match, France match today self you will see how big teams execute football and not the eye sore wey we witness today.

  • Go assemble your team and let’s see that attractive football you will play yeye.. Equitoria Guinea Ghana match! And what was the result? If it was SE who play that 1:1 draw in such a match you guys would have asked to cut off the head of the coach without minding the performance but u can here talking about sweet football when all what you and your cohorts knows is winning at all time forgetting that football is more than that. Ghana is almost on the verge of not qualifying against South Africa remember whe have been in the same group several times with them and we always come out top even with the same coach. Who could have imagine Cape Verde could amased 10 points in our group that is funny thing about football

    • We are talking about the beautiful attacking football executed by the Ethiopians and you’re here saying trash. You have never watched football aside Super Eagles. Maybe it’s high time you connect DSTV in that Village my boy.
