2022 World Cup: Don’t Play Rice, Shaw Against Wales — Pearce Warns Southgate

Former England manager, Stuart Pearce has advised Gareth Southgate not to start the duo of Declan Rice and Luke Shaw against Wales in their final group game of the 2022 World Cup.

In a chat with talkSPORT, Pearce insisted that both players should be kept safe for the knockout stage of the tournament in Qatar.

“There’s a couple I’d like to not see play. Because I cannot afford for them to be injured for the knockout stages,” Stuart, a former England star, told talkSPORT.

“Declan Rice number one, Luke Shaw is another.

There are two individuals that I’m thinking to myself there’s no chance I’m playing them I’ve got to keep them safe. Kane might be another one that falls into those. There’s three I’d make sure I wouldn’t start in any way shape or form.”

England will make it to the next round of the competition with just one point against Wales.

They drew goalless against the USA on Friday four days after beating Iran 6-2 in the first game.
