2022 World Cup Draw: Ghana To Face Old Foes Uruguay As Cameroon, Morocco Get Tough Opponents

Black Stars of Ghana will have the chance to avenge their controversial defeat to Uruguay as both teams will face off in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In Friday’s draw in Doha, Qatar, Ghana were grouped with the two-time World Cup winners, Portugal and South Korea.

Recall Uruguay defeated Ghana via penalty shootout in the quarter-finals at the 2010 edition.

With the game tied at 1-1, the Black Stars had the opportunity to win the game in the dying minute, but Luis Suarez cleared a goalbound header off the line with his hands and was sent off and a penalty awarded.

Unfortunately Asamoah Gyan missed the penalty as his effort came off the cross bar and Uruguay went on to win from the shootout.

The Black Stars now have the chance to avenge the loss to Uruguay 12 years ago when they clash at this year’s edition.

To qualify for the 2022 World Cup, the Black Stars edged out the Super Eagles of Nigeria via playoffs.

Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have it all to do in Group G and will face five-time winners Brazil, Serbia and Switzerland.

Morocco are drawn in Group F with 2018 runners-up and third-places teams Croatia and Belgium alongside Canada.

Africa Cup of Nations champions Senegal are in Group A with hosts Qatar, Ecuador and Netherlands while Tunisia are in Group D with France, Denmark and one of UAE, Australia and Peru, whose qualification will be decided via playoffs.

This year’s FIFA World Cup will hold from Monday 21 November to Sunday 18 December in Qatar.

We like am. And where is Nigeria now? Pain no good. These are all teams we have played before. Go back and watch the game between ghana and Portugal in 2014, as well as Uruguay in 2010. Don’t underestimate ghana when our backs are against the wall. The ghana team has a solid backbone, fairly good goalkeeper, excellent centre backs, fantastic midfield(wakaso, baba, party,Andre, kudus, kamaldeen). The only area we have a problem is the attack but we hope to get hudson odoi, nketiah of arsenal. We are also hoping to get lamptey and Salisu of Southampton to join and we have a team to beat at the world cup. I can tell you we will represent Africa better that any of the African teams. Save this comment, we will come back to it in November

      • Bad belle will not do Nigeria any good at this time. We are not good enough for the world cup. So, we should support other African teams representing Africa.

They have started again! Then Ghana ll give them BROKEN HEART lol

        These people never learn hahah

U haven’t even recover from ur first one and u waiting for another one haha

GOD IS NOT A NIGERIAN and certainly not an EDOMAN

    • With Lookman and Dennis not being able to cope with African football, do you really think that Lookman would be able to make the English national team? Even Tammy Abraham with his exploit in Roma still can’t depose Kane from his position. So, who will Lookman bench in this current English national team?

      • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

        Everybody gat his own GRACE…

So don’t use TAMMY situation to JUDGE LOOKMAN’S own..

        • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

With GRACE it might have work well for LOOKMAN.

No be so we shout for BUKAYO SAKA own..But see now my guy don stamp in AUTHORITY with the 3 LIONS…

Besides AFRICAN FOOTBALL is harder to the UK own…so to compare no join…

How easy do you think Uruguay and Korea is? You think world cup is a tea party? You must have be hallucinating to think the former World and South American champions is a walk over. And underestimate Korea at your own peril. This world cup is going to be interesting.

That group H is really something. And that is without mentioning Portugal and South Korea. They are four sides we are accustomed to seeing at World Cup finals with potential Golden Boot winners aplenty in Cristiano Ronaldo, Suarez and Son Heung-min. Ghana our neighbor but this is too close to call. I would pick out Portugal out of the bunch.

Meanwhile, Belgium taking on fellow 2018 World Cup semi-finalists Croatia in Group F will be interesting. I think Nelson is spot on. Belgium, Croatia.

We don’t know the favor we received when we failed to qualify for the world cup.
    Like say we qualify ehn?
    We for collect taya.
Wetin we for take our eye see ehn, mouth no fit talk!
I don’t know about you guys, but for me, it is far worse, far more traumatic, to go to the world cup and be collecting 5 nil from the likes of South Korea or Iran, which is very possible with this team we have. Teams like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Ecuador would have beaten our team black and blue. Imagine what would happen if we faced Belgium, England, France, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Netherlands?
    Hehehehehe, Lord of hosts!
    Think about it.
The world cup is a high tension, high anxiety tournament. Even for the best teams, it’s a nerve wracking experience. Imagine us going to world cup with these bunch?
I’m sorry, I’m not trying to be negative, or insult the players. But it’s obvious that if these team had qualified, we would have been in line for the biggest football humiliation of our lives.
The boys tried their best, but it was not good enough. In fact, it was not good. Period.
YOU CAN’T GIVE WHAT YOU DON’T HAVE.
We paid dearly for underrating Ghana. We had no business underrating Ghana in the first place.
This is one of the worst teams Ghana has ever had in their history. They are the worst of the 5 teams representing Africa at the world cup this year.
Yet, they have better goalies, better defense, and better midfield than Nigeria!
And we want to go to the world cup, TO DO WHAT? TO DO WHAT?
The only department we were superior to Ghana is in the attack. But that was only a PAPER SUPERIORITY. The reality is we have a bunch of players (strikers, midfielders, and defenders) who are like lions at their clubs, but when it’s time to play for Nigeria, they are transformed into SHIVERING KITTENS. Apart from Osimhen. Even Osimhen was so wasteful at times. He has the potential to be really great, but he needs to be calmer and more clinical in front of goal.
The warning signs of how inconsistent our team is were there for all to see. The defeat to Madagascar, the home defeat to CAR, the struggles to get results against Liberia and Cape Verde, the defeat to a half-strength Tunisia, and most of all, Sierra Leone coming back from 4 goals down to equalize, and almost winning a match we hosted RIGHT HERE IN NIGERIA!!!
This team we have is inconsistent. They can fly high this minute, and the next minute, they produce a performance that will make you scratch your head in disbelief!
A team like that does not belong on football’s biggest stage.
Teams that go to the world cup are solid and consistent. Unless you want to go and collect disgrace and shame.
I look forward to enjoying the world cup without stress. May God keep us alive and in good health.

  • Ebhohimen 2 years ago

Hmm! I don’t know if this is a nice draw at all, I don’t know much about some of these countries too. The lowest ranked of FIFA’s confirmed qualifiers, Ghana will face Cristiano Ronaldo in their opening match. That’s calling out Otto Addo and Hughton to task. Then I previewed all the groups, which group will be the toughest? Which giant will ease through easily? Where will the upsets be? We’re some questions… No doubt we are about to find out all of that on December. And finally, to the people of Ukraine I say may the Almighty God protect and guide you, IJN.

  • Amen to that.
