Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand says Gareth Southgate’s inability to make quick substitution cost England their exit at the 2022 World Cup.
Recall that the Three Lions crashed out in the Quarter Finals after losing 2-1 to France.
However, Ferdinand believes Southgate ‘came up short’ tactically against France and the coach did not bring in fresh legs until Giroud’s late goal.
“Our substitutions is where I think Gareth Southgate let us down,” Rio Ferdinand told Vibe with Five.
“I think he’s been pitch-perfect, touch-perfect in almost every decision he’s made up to this point.
“Gareth Southgate came up short in the tactical element in terms of substitutions.”
