The Super Eagles will host Sierra Leone in their first qualifying game for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire , reports Completesports.com.

The three-time African champions are in Group A with Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé/Principe or Mauritius.

The Super Eagles will then fly to either São Tomé or Port Louis for their matchday two encounter.

The window for these two matches is 30th May – 14th June.

In September, with the window for Matchdays 3 & 4 being 19th – 27th September, the Eagles will tango home and away with the Wild Dogs of Guinea-Bissau.

The Matchdays 5 & 6 are within the period 20th – 28th March 2023, and will see the Eagles go away to Freetwon before returning home to square up to either São Tomé and Príncipe or Mauritius.

The Confederation of African Football will have to determine the team that will compete in the group between Sao Tome and Mauritius.

Mauritius have a pending protest against São Tomé and Príncipe, who won their preliminary qualifying fixture, insisting that one São Tomé player had tested positive for covid-19. São Tomé & Príncipe continue to dispute this assertion.

The top two teams in the group will qualify for the 34th Africa Cup of Nations finals taking place in Cote d’Ivoire next year summer.

    HAAA THIS IS GBEGE!!!
THE TIME WE HAVE COACH, WE PLAY DRAW IN BOTH LEGS. BUT NOW THAT WE DON’T HAVE COACH NOW AND THE MATCH IS AROUND THE CORNER, THAT MEANS THEY WILL BEAT US HOME AND AWAY. BECAUSE THE LACKADAISICAL ATTITUDE OF OUR PLAYERS ON THE FIELD OF PLAY WE NOT MAKE ME TO PUT MY HOPE/TRUST ON THEM.

WITH AKPEI, SHEHU, MUSA IGHALO, SIMON, I DON’T THINK NIGERIA WILL QUALIFY FOR AFCON2023. UNLESS DRASTIC EFFORT WAS MADE BY BRINGING-IN THE LIKE OF OSIGWE/ADELEYE(GOALKEEPER), EBUEHI, AKPOGUMA, AMAO, MOFFI, EZE EBERE, EJUKE,DESSERS. ALL THESE PLAYERS ARE BE IN TOP FORM PRESENTLY.

    • @Juliet pls add Anthony Igbekeme, that guy is about the most clinical, skill and technical striker along with Dessers we currently have. Igbekeme is as clinical as Benzema of Real Madrid and as skillful as a fit Roberto Firmino of Liverpool.

Honestly, Osimhen should learn some few things at the front of goal to up his game (He shoots off target most times and doesn’t know when to beat his marker before shooting the ball).

Pls something must be done ASAP to rejig the SE defence line of the sluggish trio; Balogun, Ekong and Aina (these trio showed no urgency in Abuja against Ghana even when the odds was against us and the funny Mr Nosense was just mopping at them killing their own time at the back).

Also, SE Midfield needs serious orthopedic attention. No spine,no central ball distributors (see Modrics passes or Debrune) and no space openners and long shot takers at the Midfield. See how Kelvin Debrune, Modric marshal the midfield????
Even a DM, CM and AM can distribute the ball from anywhere in the Midfield, create spaces, shoot the ball, assist and score goals.

Again, the new Coach must change our wing play mentality and teach us how to use the spaces quickly, how to pass and open up in split seconds.
SE must change the Nosense slow and sluggish style of football and only wakes up when our opponent scores us (why not play that game with such urgency and tenacity from blast to finish?).

We equally need a top fitness trainer as our players are not quick enough (did u see how the Ghanians were taking the ball off their legs as soon as the SE trap the ball and spend like 3seconds to decide what to do with the ball? Chief culprit is Moses Simon and others).

We need fast, fit and technical players…

Goal keeping is still very much unsettled ooooo! Over to you Coach Finidi George, Shorunmu and the unknown chief Coach.

      • @Juliet, I mean Anthony Nwakaeme who plays for Turkish Süper Lig club Trabzonspor as a left winger.

@Nosa God bless you for this analysis about the super eagles , those defenders has paid their dues ,they lack the urgency and tenacity as per the current play of football..very weak and sluggish even when they are down. We need good defenders, goal keepers and creative midfielders.

    Another heartbreaks imminent.

  • Has it gotten to this. Look at Nigeriams getting scared of sai Tome, sierra Leone Bissau. So sad. The boys are not giving Nigeriams any cause to havr hope. Don’t raise your hope. Tgese boys can disappoint even with thr best coach.

      Christian Ministries,
My brother, any team can beat these SE. Any team.
The funny thing is that they can also beat anybody on a good day.
When you don’t hope in them, they can surprise you with good results. But when you hope in them, they will become complacent and the next thing is disappointment.
Me, I am not expecting anything from these lads. And if we don’t get a foreign coach to prosecute our 2023 Afcon qualifiers, I just might not bother to watch the games. I don’t need to see S/Leone or G/Bissau taking the SE to the cleaners.

I’m making a prediction here again just like the last time, if Eguaveon and Amuneke stays as our coaches Nigeria will not qualify.

  • pompei 2 years ago

First of all, we need a quality coach that can read matches. That is our number one priority at the moment.
Second, we need ONLY THE VERY BEST PLAYERS THAT WE HAVE ACCESS TO.
If we check these 2 boxes, many players currently in the team will not be there. Only perhaps 50% of the current squad will make the cut.
If this happens, we will thrash all the teams in our group.
But if it is this same coaching crew and the same squad that could not beat Ghana that we use to play the qualifiers, hmmmmm. On action one one leg, oga. Umu mugu.
My dear friends, you can go ahead and forget about Afcon 2023.

When I was shouting the team was average and overhyped some people said I was jealous because my own career did not take off as a footballer… Look at Ekong, our stand-in keeper who isn’t good enough for the worst team in the EPL.

The Super Eagles are confirmed to play two friendlies with Mexico and Ecuador on 28th May and 3rd June 2022.

  • Chibuike 2 years ago

For me , the problem is not the players. Am sure those players are not happy when ndi ara NFF ndi oshi sack rohr they best grandfather and replace him with Mr technical director yahoo yahoo guy man that want to eat another man glory but God refused. Nigeria have quality players but lack continuity in coaching the team. Just few weeks to nations Cup and World Cup play off,you sack the coach. White people can’t try that shit. Immediately they start inviting onazi and Co, I know karma is on the way. Invite sodq, invite sodiq. White will first send his Scots to watch that player if his national team material bur everybody is shouting sodiq sodiq. Shebi una eye Don clear now?

I strongly believe in this team…it will rise from its mistakes and make us proud again…UP SUPER EAGLES!!

    • Emecco 2 years ago

@Sammy, you have the best comment so far, Most of these pessimistic fans all support EPL and even after their clubs lose games, they will still support them to get over the defeat and win the next game, but once it comes to our darling SE, immediately after a loss, all the fans lose faith in them and only wish them doom that’s not how to be a fan. You support your team at all circumstances and only criticize constructively when need be

  • Sammy 2 years ago

    Smiles!!

Thank you greatly my brother @ Emecco!! We just have to be optimistic as you have said…We believe in our darling SUPER EAGLES…We will keep supporting them and we know that they will make us proud ONCE AGAIN!!

  • pompei 2 years ago

I no dey pessimistic. I dey realistic.
The SE will make us proud once again if we:
    1) Hire a quality coach
    2) Ensure that only the best players are invited to the team
