São Tomé and Principe player Ricardo Cardoso has expressed optimism that his country will be a team to reckon with in the future.
The Super Eagles ended the 2023 AFCON qualifiers with a 6-0 win against São Tomé inside the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
Victor Osimhen scored three goals while Taiwo Awoniyi, Samuel Chukwueze and Ademola Lookman each scored a goal.
Recall, the Eagles hammered São Tomé 10-0 in the reverse fixture.
The Eagles had already qualified for next year’s AFCON holding in Côte d’Ivoire
Despite suffering the heavy defeat, Cardoso is upbeat about São Tomé’s football in the football.

“Last time we played Nigeria we had some problems, we couldn’t get our best players and had to use new players and I can promise that at the long run we will be better,” Cardoso was quoted on Brila FM.
“We know each other now and I think we were better than the last time, we showed you guys we can play as well. Nigeria is a big team with top players who feature in top clubs unlike us, we only have one player in a first division.
“We are working because we are a young team and I think next time we will be better and in the future we will be a big team.“
