2023: “This Time Our Votes Will Count” –Yobo Charges Nigerians

Former Nigerian defender, Joseph Yobo has charged Nigerians to ensure that they get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in order to vote the right leaders ahead of the 2023 elections.

Yobo, who is the BoT Chairman, Grassroot Mobilisation Initiative for Good Governance (GMI4GG), made this known on Monday in Abuja.

He stressed the need to sensitise both young and old citizens to play their roles since voting is a right.

Yobo added that 2023 elections are very crucial for the future of Nigeria.

“A nation where leaders elected are accountable to the people that elect them”, NAN quoted him saying.

“Nigeria is work in progress. We have made some progress, but we want more. We are not where we should be.

“It is against this background that I and some like minds have taken it upon ourselves to speak out.

“We desire as a country where our God-given rights are met. This time, our votes will count, all citizens should get involved,” he urged.

  • Refreshing stuff coming from Mr. Joseph Yobo. I hope it is competently implemented on the ground. One of the main reasons why things has gone wrong in Nigeria and continues to go wrong, is our mentality. Across the board, the wrong people have continually been in government and that have negatively affected every facet of life in our country. Things would start to get better in our country if people are voted into office based on merit, not because they cynically donated a bag of rice to a community.

I’m with you on that Mr Yobo. The candidate selection and election should also be made by the public not party leaders. All members of a political party should be able to vote in their party’s primary election to choose who represents the party in the general elections. If we continue to allow the party officials choose the candidate for us, they will still not be accountable to the people when elected into office. We have to be able to choose who our candidates for an election should be. Not leaving it to the so-called party leaders choosing their preferred candidates who would end up serving only the interest of those that chose him/her instead serving interest of us all. The moment we are able to do that, that’s when we will truly have elected officials working without being worried about their godfathers inducing them to steal public fund for them to share.
