2023 WWC: Super Falcons Vs England Is ’50/50′ — Ayegba

Former Super Falcons goalkeeper Racheal Ayegba says Monday’s clash between Nigeria and England is “50/50.

The two countries will clash in one of the Round of 16 fixtures of th 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup at the Lang Park, Brisbane.

European champions England are the favourites to win the game but Ayegba insists the game can go either way.

“The key to beating England in the next round is not allowing them to play their own game. Everybody has a plan and if you let your opponents put that plan into action then you are going to be in trouble,”Ayegba who represented Nigeria between 2001 and 2010 told the BBC.

“Likewise, every team has a weak point and England currently have some injuries.

“When Nigeria beat Australia, the hosts actually played well but we over-powered them with our strength and power. That’s our weapon that we have to use. If we can do that, then the game is 50/50.”

It will be the fourth-ever meeting between both countries. Nigeria has won twice, while England has won once.

The encounter will kick off at 8:30 am Nigerian time.

  • You guys should be realistic it is 70-30 in favour of three lionesses else if………. like computer programming.

    • thank you ! which means you know knowledge of football. England is tactically superior and well-organized outside the football field.

  • England has a well oiled league and so they are well grounded. We have no chance. Let’s forget the patriotism. If we win it will be upset of the tournament. The odds are 1-75. Our girls have not fine-tuned their way of play. This includes the so call big girls playing overseas in big clubs like Barca and Athletico. A well oiled league of ours will do a lot of good. My prediction England 3 vs Nigeria 0. As I said, if Nigeria wins, it will be there upset of the tournament.

    • You know nothing about football

You are totally bereaved of football knowledge, so empty!!.. You seems not to have read the complete submission of the poster?. We have beaten England two times and they have won us only once , does that shows superiority or not ? …that shows head to head we are ahead of them, we are superior !..the last time we played england we beat them 3 – 0 right there in England!!..,was there no oil league then , were they not well organized then ?..,The point is that Nigeria have more talent than England, we are fast and we had the strength to weigh them down , that is our niche. Yes they are more organized and probably more technical, but if our coaches come to the party and the girls psychologically prep up then we will easily beat the English!!. Nigeria is winning England in this match 3 – 1, that is my prediction!!

How do we know the plan of England? They won’t come out to tell us. It will take an “A” intelligence for our technical crew to be able to unlock the plan of the English team.

    • I watched a program segment on Supersport before the world cup how the England coach analyzed our group and well, dismissed our chances of progression because our team focused too much on our star girl to perform well. Winning 2 Euros as a coach back to back shows she is a savvy coach but she is not unbeatable

Morocco is currently pulling something in their match against Colombia. On the other hand. Germany just managed to come back against South Korea after 45 minutes of action. If both scorelines stay like this to the end, Morocco would have pulled another upset while Germany will be joining Brazil, Canada in preliminary round shock exit….

The way these Moroccans move the ball, especially during counters, is so scintillating. They dont dwell too long on the ball, pass into stace and let the ball do the running.

I hope they make it to the next round too. That will be a good reward for all their investment in football from administration to facilities to coaching and so on

They indeed made it. Congratulations to Morocco, congratulations Africa. It’s 3/4. Excellent!

  • Hahaha. Without taking credit away from the skills and hard work of Morocco, why do I feel Colombia actually wanted Germany out? It’s like a cage wrestling contest where you try to throw out the strongest opponents first as that would increase your chances of winning the prize money. Colombia played football but didn’t really care about winning. They just came to have fun.

    • Anyhow, e sweet me. Italy had qualifications in their hands – beat South Africa. They failed. Germany too – beat Korea rep even with 20 minutes extra time. They failed. I thought Morocco would not survive Columbia as I never gave them a chance but Morocco is showing Nigeria how to invest in football. Slicky players with a UEFA women’s champions league coach in the mix. I give it to them. Columbia had their chances but when you are assured of top place finish, why burn yourselves out. What a second round ahead.

  • @okereke what does patriotic gat to do with being realistic. Unless the team improve their striking force, we have a very huge task ahead of us. For your mind now Okereke you are more patriotics than us be that!!!!

This young lady Ayegba makes a lot of sense with her calm analysis, unlike the outbursts spluttered by ex-Super Eagles like Lawal, Dosu and Babangida.

  • Saying the right thing has nothing to do with patriotism, to be frank our team has not being impressive, they have luck and the ball bounced their way. There is no seriousness in their approach. If they give England all the space they gave Canada, Australia and Ireland the game would be over in the first half. For the falcons to have a chance they have to go after England, do not give them any breathing space to operate. The key is to hurry them and they would be frustrated if they cannot get easy passes, that was what Haiti did to them. We should not show them too much respect.
