2024 Olympic Qualifiers: It’s Make Or Mar Against Super Falcons –Ellis Vows

Banyana Banyana of South Africa head coach Desiree Ellis has declared that the team’s showdown in the 2024 Olympic Games final qualifying round fixture against the Super Falcons will be a ‘make or mar’ affairs.

Recall that South Africa made it through to the final qualifying round after beating Tanzania 4-0 on aggregate while the Super Falcons defeated Cameroon 1-0 on aggregate to set up this mouth-watering clash.

The two-legged match is slated for April 1-9, 2024.

  • For South Africa, this is beyond football. They want to assert themselves as the new power in female football in Nigeria and this is the chance for the SF to shut them up. Ellis, Kgatlana, and their former captain Janine van Wyk were clearly not happy watching Oshoala win the AFPOTY Women. The camera aptly captured their angry and jealous faces at the event. Janine van Wyk even said the Nigerian doesn’t deserve the award.

Forget Ghana, it is South Africans that play with vile and venom against Nigeria now like their lives depend on it and we must never give them that satisfaction.

My only worry is that I think we have a laid-back NFF president and board. The guy doesn’t seem proactive. He let slip a golden opportunity for the SE to play Argentina in preparation for the WCQ against Benin and a confident SA in June.

Now Ellis has said they’re going into a closed camp for the crunch tie. What’s Gusau and his dumb board’s plan? Nothing or the usual. They’re already putting us at a disadvantage with the venue and time for the game.

And we’re playing home first, so it’s going to be a hostile environment snatching the ticket away in SA. The good thing I hear is that the away goals rule will not be applied in this final round.

I agree with your write up. Super Falcons must start camping now. They must take all the chances because it may be the only chance in the match.
