2026 WCQ: Super Eagles Must Beat South Africa — Finidi

Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George has said it is important for the Super Eagles to beat South Africa in their next game in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The former African champions are still looking for their first win in the qualifying series after drawing their opening two games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

The Super Eagles will host Bafana Bafana in a matchday three encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Friday,June 7.

The West Africans will be up against neighbours Benin Republic at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan three days later.

Finidi insisted it is important for the Super Eagles to get their campaign back on track with a win against South Africa.

“We know Nigerians would love the team to win all the time, and we’ll just get the players focused on the game, one game at a time. We focus on the South African game and see how we can win that one before we talk about the Benin Republic game. For me, as a coach, it’s either you have a good result, or you don’t have a good result,” Finidi said in an interview with Eagle FM.

“One cannot be scared in life. Like I said, going through life is difficult, you walk through it with the difficulties that you know you’ll encounter. So that’s how I look at life and approach it that way, and football will not be any different. We will do our job and make sure we get the best out of that game, and apart from that, nothing else.’

IF FINIDI GEORGE BASED HIS INVITATION OF PLAYERS ON POTENTIAL, QUALITY & MERIT (without sentiment), THEN HE WILL DEFINITELY SUCCEED WITH SUPER EAGLE. BUT IF HE BASED HIS INVITATION OF PLAYERS ON EGO, SENIORITY, UNFIT EXPERIENCE PLAYER/LEADERSHIP/CAPTAINSHIP OR INVITE PLAYERS TO PLEASED/PACIFY SOMEBODY, THEN HE WILL FAIL WOEFULLY MORE THAN PAST LOCAL COACHES.
*** FINIDI SHOULD LEAVE OUT ANY UNFIT, INCONSISTENT, BENCHWARMER, IRRELEVANT, IRREGULAR PLAYERS IN SUPER EAGLE TEAM.
*** HE SHOULD LEAVE OUT UNFIT EXPERIENCE PLAYERS/CAPTAIN/LEADER OUT OF SUPER EAGLE.
**** FINIDI SHOULD SELECT A NEW FULL-TIME FITTED LEADER/CAPTAIN (i.e. a captain that will be relevant on the field not on the bench).

      LET DEBATE:

DOES SUPER EAGLE STILL NEED IRRELEVANT, UNFIT CAPTAIN, AHMED MUSA AGAIN????????????

  • DON'T MIND THEM 4 weeks ago

    MY ADVICE FOR FINIDI GEORGE
@** Work hand to hand with your Technical crews
@** Let the invitation of players base on merit
@** Don’t allow anybody FORCE/IMPOSE any players on you. Instead SCOUT for players & test them in Friendly matches
@** Invite local players that is ready to give foreign professional players a stiff competition(not the one to add to the number/surplus to requirements).
    @** Always maintain your stand
@** Don’t allow anybody to be pushing you up and down.
@** Don’t be carried away with the club performance of players ONLY but base on PRESENT FORM & POTENTIAL
@** Do not tolerate INDISCIPLINE in to your team.
#** Do not invite players in order to pacify/please somebody (like local Coach Equavoen)
@** Encourage your players to be STRONG & MORE PHYSICAL when it comes to Africa football
@** Try to take advantage of newly introduced format: FIVE-SUBSTITUTION in a match(approved by CAF & FIFA) as an opportunity to test-run other players and MORE TECHNICAL in it.
@** Emphasize more on WING PLAY pattern for Super eagle

  • Where is the list of players though or I’m I missing something?
