2026 WCQ: Zimbabwe Players Boycott Training Ahead Super Eagles Clash

Zimbabwe players boycotted training on Thursday over unpaid bonuses, appearance fees and allowances ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The Warriors held Rwanda to a 0-0 draw in their first game on Wednesday.

According to the Herald, head coach, Baltemar Brito was made to sit on the bus for about 45 minutes waiting for the players, who stayed in their rooms, and later disembarked in frustration.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZiFA) reportedly promised US$2 000 for a win but said nothing on drawn matches.

The players want their daily allowances paid and are also demanding they get something from their draw against Rwanda.

The issue is expected to be resolved before the game against Nigeria.

Baltemar Brito’s side will entertain the three-time African champions at the Huye Stadium, Butare on Sunday.

The Super Eagles held Lesotho to a 1-1 draw at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Thursday.
