Ex- Belgium Star Verheyen Urges Dessers To Stay At Feyenoord

Former Belgium forward Gert Verheyen has urged Cyriel Dessers to do all he can to join Eredivisie club Feyenoord Rotterdam on a permanent deal, reports Completesports.com.

Dessers endured a torrid time with Genk last season playing second fiddle to compatriot Paul Onuachu.

The 27-year-old is however enjoying a new lease of life at Feyenoord this season after arriving on a season-long deal last summer.

The striker has scored six goals in 24 league appearances for Arne Slot’s side this season.

Dessers has scored another 10 in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

“If you bring Dessers back, Genk should see him as the number one striker. Because if the coach thinks another striker is better, Dessers will be on the bench again,” Gert Verheyen told Het Nieuwsblad, via Walfoot.

“He deserves this chance, but if I was in his place, I would do anything to stay at Feyenoord. Because of the status he has there now. You always have to start from scratch when you go anywhere else.

“Look at (Romelu) Lukaku. He left Inter when he was at the top there. Whereas you always perform better when you know you are appreciated there.”

Feyenoord have until June 1 to make the loan deal permanent.

  • Salisu insists on Musa, Ighalo for Eagles..this is the latest from own goal. The question is..”insist” against who? Naija Fans or NFF or Ministers? Because this story came up when people are clamoring for the inclusion of dessers. Imagine the assistant manager that is still there till the appointment of New Foreign Manager insisting on retired players. Hmmm..
    May God help us.

The coach will need experienced players. The inexperienced youths, Bassey, Dennis, Bible and Lookman that were invited the other time didn’t inspire confidence. With odion, Musa, Amoo and other regulars, coach Yusuf should be sure of winning matches. However, Desserts could also be invited but on the standby list.

      • I have 3 questions for you, ..
        1) Is there any time we ever submitted a list without the inclusion of Ahmed Musa?
        2) what was Ighalo’s Contribution against Cape Verde and Ghana when he came in?
        3) If Dessers name should be on the standby list then give me the names of the strikers that should be on the main list.

What a sick country, Musa ve told u guys his priority but some clowns still begging him to play for Nigeria. How can a man with three wives be allowed to be playing for us, the man is dedicated to his wives to the super Eagles.
