Super Eagles Head Coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has downplayed concerns over Victor Boniface’s goal drought for Nigeria, despite his prolific form for his German Bundesliga club, Bayer Leverkusen. Eguavoen believes that Friday’s AFCON qualifying match against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya could be the turning point, reports Completesports.com.
Eguavoen spoke during Thursday night’s pre-match press conference at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
“It’s not much of a concern that his goal tally has not met expectations compared to his performances for his German club, Bayer Leverkusen,” Eguavoen, fondly called ‘Cerezo’, responded.

“There’s always a time for everything, and I firmly believe that Friday could be the turning point. Yes, Boniface will start scoring.”
Eguavoen, currently on his fourth stint as Super Eagles Head Coach, also discussed his preparations for the double-header AFCON 2025 qualifier.
He emphasised that the team has been thoroughly prepared, which gives him confidence in achieving a decisive victory against Libya.
“We’ve done quite enough in terms of preparation. The players have responded appropriately and professionally. It’s not out of place to say we are ready for the match, with an outright win in mind as a reward for our efforts—not just on Friday, but also on Tuesday in Libya,” Eguavoen said.
