Spain U-20 women’s head coach David Aznar is pleased with his team’s performance after La Rojita opened their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over Nigeria’s Falconets.
Spain took control of the encounter early, with Marisa Garcia breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute.
Alba Cerrato then sealed the win 17 minutes from full time, putting Spain firmly in command and securing all three points.
Aznar Pleased With Win
Aznar praised his players for their efforts while acknowledging the challenge posed by a physically strong Nigerian side.

“We are very pleased. Winning the first match at a tournament of this level is always positive because it means that your destiny remains in your own hands going into the following games,” Aznar told FIFA.com.
“It was a very difficult match. We knew Nigeria would make things extremely difficult for us because they have tremendous physical potential, and we knew it was going to be demanding.
“I think we made an enormous effort and deserved to win.”
The former champions will look to make it two wins from two when they take on tournament debutants New Caledonia on Thursday.
