Despite Aston Villa’s poor run in front of goal in the Premier League, boss Dean Smith says he is confident goals will come in the near future.
The newly-promoted Midlands outfit have found the back of the net just four times since returning to the top flight and Monday night’s goalless draw with West Ham was the second game in succession where they failed to find the back of the net.
Smith says he would be more worried if his side were not creating many chances but he believes that part of their game is fine and therefore they will soon start to get among the goals.

Villa’s Premier League goals this term have come from Wesley, Anwar El Ghazi, Douglas Luiz and John McGinn and they could certainly do with a few more.
Smith said after the Hammers game that he had seen improvements from their previous clash with Crystal Palace and he was happy and is not yet concerned by the goal situation. “Against Crystal Palace, we didn’t even create chances in the final third until the last minute.
There was an improvement on that,” said the boss. “Is it a concern? No. I’d be more concerned had we not created chances. We were playing a very good team who are very well-coached. West Ham will probably finish in the top 10.”
Smith may have taken the positives from the draw with the Hammers but knows they will need to do more in the future, especially in the event they find themselves playing against ten men as they did on Monday.
West Ham’s Arthur Masuaku was sent off for two bookable offences and they were down to ten for the final quarter of the match.
Villa’s quest for goals will continue on Sunday when they travel to Arsenal to face the Gunners, and Smith’s men currently sit in 17th place in the Premier League table on four points – two ahead of bottom club Watford.
