Niger Republic shocked Black Galaxies of Ghana 2-0 to book a place in the semi-finals of the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Saturday.
It was the Black Galaxies’ second defeat in the three games they played in the competition.
Recall the Nigeriens also beat Cameroon 1-0 in their must win final group game to secure qualification into the last eight.
Niger Republic took the lead in the 11th minute after Imarana Dan Baro’s deflected header ended inside the back of the net.

And in the 49th minute Soumana Hainikoye made it 2-0 with a beautiful curler into the far top corner.
Niger Republic will now take on hosts Algeria in the semi-finals.
In the first quarter-final on Saturday, Madagascar overcame Mozambique 3-1.

Ghana Served Up A Tasteless Porridge
It is the end of the road for Ghana in this year’s CHAN tournament as the team’s performance on the pitch failed to match their coach’s beliefs and lofty ambitions. Is it that the players were not good enough or the coaches lacked tactical acumen or a combination of both, who knows?
I saw all three games played by the Black Galaxies in this tournament and they look no less a tournament winning side than Brighton qualifying for and winning the Uefa Champions League.
They were soundly beaten by Madagascar before coming from behind to eventually overcome an impressive Sudan in uninspiring fashion. And yesterday, minnows Niger Republic thought them a lesson in how to play football by soaking much pressure before inflicting maximum harm twice like combatants in a guerilla warfare to run away 2:0 winners.
The proof, they say, is in the puff puff: 66% possession yeiled 0 goals for Ghana whilst Benin were merciless with the 34% of time they saw the ball.
Benin’s first goal came from a beautiful cross from left wing with a neat connection which would then take a wicked deflection off a Ghanaian defender en route to hitting the back net. Their second was the stuff of Hollywood. After leaving his marker for dead, the Nigerien striker curled a beauty past the goalkeeper from distant. The ball travelled into the net almost in slow motion with the goalkeeper stretching in futility to try to keep the ball out.
2:0 to Niger and Ghana, who had no answer to the steely defence and sturdy organisation of their opponents all night, were out of the tournament in the quarter finals.
I suspect that Ghanian fans will be seething right now. I was a little bit disappointed. Ghana have more pedigree in football and to see them humbled so mercilessly was definitely an upset in my humble opinion.
It is a long road back for Ghanaian fans this early in 2023 and I genuinely feel pity for them. With the West African powerhouse not participating in the two Under-20 and two Under-17 tournaments and (the big one) the Women’s World Cup this year, Ghanaian fans will now be praying that their team qualifies for the Olympic Under-23 Afcon.
Ghana’s double header Afcon qualifiers against Congo’s Under-23s in March is now effectively last chance saloon to see their team qualify for and make any meaningful impact in any international football tournament this year: it is that bad.
I sure don’t want to be in Ghanian fans’ shoes at the moment but I wish them well.
After all the big talks, good preparations and lofty ambitions of their team going into this Chan tournament, to sadly ended up tasting like thin gruel.

Maybe Yaw-Yaw-Yaw can come and analyse to us how Nigerian and other African players are overated and Ghana with their jersey of blinding crimson red color plus yellow marker like a drawing of a primary 2 pupil are the only talented players. Maybe Niger used over aga players and CAF didn’t use MRI scan for this tournament. Lol. Where’s the dunce by the way?

Ghana was BADLY COACHED!! Listening to the beinsports commentators they realized Ghana had some talented players and was ball playing team but was BADLY COACHED!!
I said it prior to the tournament that Ghana is useless because I knew our coach was garbage!!
We outplayed Niger and infact Nigerien played DESTRUCTIVE football by putting 11 men behind the ball which shows their intent right from the onset!
Our technical team let us down!!

I’m sure the black galaxies red Jersey, which looks so,heavy common,cheap is the major cause of their lackadaisical performance and subsequent early exit. The GFA isn’t doing much this time around

Ghana qualified in two of the six qualifying competitions last year while Nigeria qualified in four.All the ones Ghana qualified for,they have always ended them in a fiasco
i could noticed that Ghana only focuses on how to win Nigerian Teams and whenever they achieved,everyone in the Nation is happy and that has cost Ghana teams lot of setback considering when last they won a major trophies,
Now i’m pleading to GFA and all Concern Bodies of Footballing Managements in Ghana to channel the same Energy and Technics used to win Nigeria for other countries i feel sad now
