Ablett Setback Leaves Furner Frustrated

Leeds coach Dave Furner admits it is disappointing to lose Carl Ablett for up to six weeks after the forward underwent surgery. The 33-year-old has yet to feature for the struggling Rhinos this season due to a knee problem but had been pencilled in to make his return to action in the clash with Hull FC on 8 March, only to pick up an injury in the warm-up.

The issue had left Ablett unable to train properly and the decision was taken that he would go under the knife to correct the problem, ruling him out for between four to six weeks. Having yet to see a fully fit Ablett in action, the news of another injury has left Furner frustrated and he is now counting down the days until he can welcome the second row back.

Furner told the Leeds website: “It is really disappointing for Carl because physically he is in great shape but he has not been able to get back to full out running with the team. “The surgeon is confident that the problem has been sorted now and hopefully he will be able to return as soon as possible once he is back running. It will be great to add his experience to our group when he is back available.”

Meanwhile, Leeds have confirmed Adam Cuthbertson will miss Thursday’s Super League game against Castleford due to his ankle injury but could make his return the following week against Hull KR.
