AFCON 2019 Qualifiers: Ighalo Finishes As Leading Marksman With Seven Goals

AFCON 2019 Qualifiers: Ighalo Finishes As Leading Marksman With Seven Goals

Super Eagles forward Odion Ighalo finished as the top hitman after the final rounds of qualifying matches for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt on Sunday, Completesports.com reports.

Ighalo edged out Burundi ‘ s Fiston Abdul Razak to finish top of the goalscorers’ chart with seven goals.

The Shanghai Shenhua of China forward scored the opening goal in the Super Eagles 3-1 win against the Pirates of Seychelles in their final group game at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Friday.

The former Watford striker was on target in all the games he featured for the Super Eagles in the qualifiers.

He scored once for the Super Eagles on match day two against Seychelles at the Stade Linte, Victoria, got a hat-trick on match day three against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo and also hit the back of the net once in the reverse fixture against the North Africans in Sfax.

Gernot Rohr’s side finished top of Group E with 13 points from six games.

The Super Eagles are making a return to Africa’s showpiece event after missing out on the last two editions of the competition.

Fiston failed to add to his six- goal tally in Burundi ‘ s 1-1 home draw against the Panthers of Gabon at the Prince Louis Rwagasore Stadium, Bujumbura on Saturday.

His goal scoring prowess is the key reason why the Swallows will be making their maiden appearance at the AFCON finals this summer in Egypt.

When will my people wake up and smell the beans? Chai, may I never see my back without looking at a mirror.

Goals that are largely made from penalty kicks scored against national teams that will not compete with division two clubs in Nigeria are nothing to celebrate.

What is wrong with you people.

Where was Ighalo against Croatia, Argentina, England, Czech Republic? SMH.

Now that he is scoring against Stationary Stores FC you are all celebrating. See what Rohr has reduced you to!

My people, one by one you will all be unplugged someday.

Is Ighalo Sadio Mane? Is Ighalo Mohammed Salah? Will Ighalo reach the heights of George Weah or Didier Drogba? SMH.

These are strikers in the echelons of greatness, the cream of the crop. You are here celebrating mediocrity….

Please my people, we should stop accepting mediocrity!

Blessings from above to you all.

Pls go and delete all the penalties and goals that C. Ronaldo scored against the likes of san marino, latvia, luxembourg, gibraltar etc from FIFA records, because they were penalties and because they were scored against division 2 teams.

Heavenly Father. The day Ighalo (or any Nigeria player for that matter) compares favourably with Ronaldo will be manna from heaven.

        Blessings to us all.

@ Peterside, you’ve a point no doubt, but I reckon people are only trying to encourage him. It will be stupid for Ighalo to start thinking he has arrived in terms of class n not money. He has everything to be the hottest striker in Africa at least but need that extra tenacity which everyone can see in Sane n Salah. That’s just what are players lack at d moment. Sometimes I start to think if it’s pounded yam that’s pressing these players down.
