AFCON 2021: Super Eagles Focused On Egypt Game –Awaziem

Super Eagles defender, Chidozie Awaziem says the team is highly focus on getting a positive result against the Pharaohs of Egypt in Tuesday’s opening Group D game of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Awaziem stated this in an interview with the team media officer on Monday after their training exercise.

He noted that the spirit in camp is high and the players are battle ready to challenge the seven-time champions for the maximum points at the Roumde Adjia Stadium, Garoua.

“In the team right now everyone is fully focused and we are few hours away from the kickoff against Egypt. So everyone is focus and concentrating on that game. It’s not going to be an easy game because they have a lot of top players.

“But we are fully ready to battle against them and I know with the help of the coach and the Nigerians, I know we are going to come out with a positive result.

“Honestly, there is a really good positive feeling in the team. The group is a very wonderful group because everyone helps each other. We all carry each other along and I think it’s really wonderful group. And I know with this feeling the team will go far in Cameroon.

Morocco defeat Ghana by a lone goal.
Ghana were actually the better side for much of the game, with more possession, and looked more dangerous going forward. But Morocco had an injection of energy in the last 15 minutes, and managed to snatch a goal in the 83rd minute.
Morocco were good without being spectacular. More of a threat than Senegal, in my opinion, though it’s still early days yet. But based on what I’ve seen so far, I’m yet to see a team that can stop Algeria. Maybe we will see a real contender soon.

Morocco actually dominated them it was 62% possession for Morocco to 38% for Ghana. Ghana we’re only set up to play on the counter and Morocco know how to play those kind of as well. In the end Morocco has more quality. The Ghanaian forwards Sulemana and Paintsil are very good players but their end product is atrocious. Ghana doesn’t really look like a contender Morocco is.

      • Toor thank you I wanted to ask which of the match Morocco had more possession even on BBC sport live it was Morrocco with highest possession. Thanks for clarification sir

        I stand corrected.
I saw the game from start to finish, and to me, Ghana gave as good as they got. So I was surprised to see the possession stats, as you mentioned.
I disagree that Ghana were set up to counter. Not in this game. They took the fight to Morocco, and looked more likely to score in my opinion. They just lacked that quality final ball, and the finishing was poor. With better finishing, we might have had a different result for Ghana.
Morocco also gave a good showing today. They will likely get better as the competition progresses.

I think Morocco is still a team to watch.
I agree that Cape Verde impressed against Ethiopia. Cameroon and Burkina Faso however will be a tougher challenge for the Blue Sharks. We’ll see how much of a contender Cape Verde is after they’ve played with those two sides.

Good observation bro, I won’t rule out all North Africans finals.

  • Four four two 2 years ago

Both teams don’t look like contenders from my Observation . For now Only cape Verde stands out so far. I see them getting past Cameroun with ease.

Ghana has a shit team at this year’s afcon….They’re main striker(Jordan Ayew) has just 2 goals in almost 40 matches for club….Partey is the only stand out player in that team I’m sorry to say. @Pompeii I don’t think you watched the game…Morocco were far better than Ghana in the game. Ghana couldn’t keep hold of the ball for long..sentiments aside.
And yes I was there live in Yaounde covering the match.

Some pipo can criticize others indirectly ehn!
Instead of them to come out directly, they will be saying “toor” upandan.
    Toor, toor, toor.
    Cowardly bad belle pipo dem.
If I make a mistake, point it out to me and I will appreciate. Instead of being sneaky!

  • Ghana gave their best but it wasn’t enough, in fairness the game was actually end for a draw which I could have preferred until that defensives clumsiness…they live to fight another day.
