Holders Senegal , Morocco and Egypt all exited the competition in the Round of 16.

“The competition has been a sexy one, it’s good for African football. All the teams that qualified for the last World Cup as well as the teams that make it to the last stage in Cameroon have been knocked out,” Amokachi said at an event in Abidjan on Wednesday.

“The number of goals scored in the group stage is also more than what was recorded in the last two editions. That’s an indication that football is growing in Africa.

“We just have to keep respecting the good job the coaches, the players and federations are doing.”

  • Like 205 goals scored already and we still have 8 more matches to go, yet they’ve recorded more goals than the last edition t
Of 201goals, African soccer have grown and it will soon beat the South American tournament.

A few years ago Amokachi and Musa were complaining about too many foreign-born players in the Super Eagles. Now we see at AFCON that other countries have more Oyibos than Nigeris..

  • I’m just happy that this improvement is coming at a time FIFA increased the number of teams to participate at the World Cup. If countries like Cape Verde and Guinea qualifies for the next World Cup, be expecting an upset from them.

  • People will soon realise the quality of football presently in Africa.

Foorball in Africa has developed cause small counteries have allowed their based or local players to join European clubs, also they have summoned double nationality players who have based in Europe to join their decent countries, look at Nuswe player of Equatoria Guinea who has been based in Spain he has Spanish nationality but he has switched alliegance for his decent country EG , also look for the black horse Cape Verde team , most of the players of this team have been based in Portugal , so they have Portugese football mentality; look at Congo Demogratic also most of their players have joined Eruropean clubs from local clubs; African minnows countries I think one of them or tow or three of them will elevate to the next World Cup in USA and Mexico 2026…
