Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi has backed the Super Eagles to emerge champions at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The three-time champions have been named by many pundits among the favorites to win the title in Cote d’Ivoire.
Mikel, who won the 2013 AFCON title with the Super Eagles is upbeat Jose Peseiro’s side can claim the title again.

“Nigeria will win the 2023 AFCON and Victor Osimhen will win player of the tournament,” Mikel said in an interview with CNN World Sport.
“When it comes to the striking department, I think right now we are blessed. We are blessed with a lot of players there. [Taiwo] Awoniyi is doing well for Nottingham Forest and also for the national team.
“We also have Victor Boniface of Bayer Leverkusen, who is doing really well. So we are quite blessed when it comes to striking force. But we just have to fix some little issues with the defence and goalkeeping. I think if we can be able to do that, we’ve got a very good chance to win it.”
The Super Eagles are drawn in Group A with hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.

People that are important in Nigerian football are wishing the SE success at this Afcon while Charlatans and nonentities on this forum who are irrelevant in Nigerian football circle and who are also failures in their respective careers are wishing the SE doom just because their preferred coach, ( Rohr) or their preferred players ( Dessers/ Akpom/Moffi/ Adams/ Nwakali etc) weren’t selected . The rest of the riffraffs on this platform are wishing SE failure at this Afcon just because Armed Musa was selected. To me this is an act of irresponsibility and childishness. Instead of wishing our darling SE doom at this Afcon, is not better for all these groups of renegades I mentioned above to just ignore everything about Nigerian football and just move on??. From now on, I would take it personal with any one that dares to wish our belove SE doom in this Afcon. I take it as an act of TREASON and it’s totally unacceptable.
